Gay Cruising in Ibiza: The Honest 2026 Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
In Ibiza Town the evening starts in the port. The ferries to Formentera tie up, the floodlit walls of Dalt Vila turn gold above the harbour, and the narrow lane the locals call Carrer de la Mare de Déu, Calle de la Virgen in Spanish, fills with terraces, colour and noise after dark. Somebody orders a chilled shot of hierbas ibicencas, the island's herb-and-anise liqueur, and the night drifts on towards the superclubs. For all its reputation, Ibiza's cruising scene is small: no gay sauna that we could verify in 2026, one long-standing bar with a darkroom, a men's club that is hard to pin down, and a famous naturist beach that is for sunbathing, not for the dunes behind it.
Legal in one line: Spain has had same-sex marriage since 2005 and is one of the most LGBTQ-friendly countries in the world. Bars with darkrooms and men's clubs are legal, licensed venues. Sex in a public place is only a crime if minors or people with disabilities are present, but "obscene exhibition" can be fined €100–600 under the public security law (Ley Orgánica 4/2015), and the beach at Es Cavallet sits inside a protected natural park.
What Ibiza has, and what it doesn't
The gay scene is concentrated in Ibiza Town (Eivissa, or simply Vila to locals): the bars of Calle de la Virgen in the old fishermen's quarter of Sa Penya, a few terraces on Carrer d'Alfons XII at the foot of the Dalt Vila walls, and the hotels and beach of Figueretas, a short walk south. The big clubs (Pacha, Amnesia, DC10, Hï and the rest) are mixed, not gay venues. Sant Antoni, on the west coast, is mainstream.
Most bars run from spring to October. In mid-October the season is closing, so check what is still open before you head out. See our Ibiza bars guide for the full list.
JJ Bar: the darkroom on Calle de la Virgen
JJ Bar (Calle de la Virgen 79, near the far end of the gay street) is one of Ibiza's original gay bars: a traditional, pub-style place with a balcony looking over the port. Travel Gay lists it with a darkroom, open from 10pm to 4am, every night from April to October and at weekends in winter; the listing was last updated in April 2025. Staff speak English, French and Spanish. It is a bar first, so expect a drink and conversation at the front and the darkroom as an option, not the main event.
Deep Club 61: a men's club in Figueretas (check first)
Spanish directories list Deep Club 61 at Calle Galicia 1, near Figueretas beach, as a meeting place for gay men with a bar, cabins, a darkroom, and a sauna and steam room. GayOut's own Ibiza guide describes a former sauna and gym in Figueretas relaunched as a private men's cruise club with a bar, snacks, cabins, a darkroom, videos and music, open in the early morning after the clubs. A visitor review on a Spanish directory dates from September 2025, but the club has no website or social account that we could find, and no source gives hours or prices. Treat it as unconfirmed: ask in the Calle de la Virgen bars or call ahead before you go.
Cenit Pool Bar: daytime and sunset
For a more social kind of eyeing-up, the rooftop Cenit Pool Bar at Hotel Cenit (Calle Archiduque Luis Salvador, Figueretas) is open to non-residents for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Travel Gay, in a listing updated in August 2026, describes it as gay-popular and "very busy and cruisy" in the late afternoon and early evening. It is a pool bar, not a sex venue.
The bars to start your night
Ibiza's cruising often begins with a drink. Bar MonaLisa (Carrer d'Alfons XII 3) is a stylish cocktail bar with a big terrace next to SÔD at the foot of the old walls; one Spanish directory mentions a darkroom there, but other listings don't, and we couldn't confirm it. Along Calle de la Virgen, Bar Nini, Dado and Sunrise are busy terrace bars where people meet before moving on.
Closed: s'Anfora, the Dalt Vila disco (San Carlos 7) long known for its darkroom upstairs, closed in 2016 after the building was sold, and the island has had no dedicated gay nightclub since. La Muralla, the men-only cruise bar at Sa Carrossa 3 in Dalt Vila, is listed by Travel Gay as permanently closed, and its website no longer loads. Bar 22 at Calle de la Virgen 22 has also closed. Some directories still list all three as open. On the beach, Chiringay at Es Cavallet, the LGBTQ+ beach bar there for 45 years, announced its permanent closure in June 2026.
Es Cavallet: for sunbathing
Es Cavallet is an official naturist beach of about 1.1 km of pale sand on the south coast, inside the Ses Salines Natural Park. Its northern end has been a meeting point for LGBTQ+ visitors since the 1980s, for decades centred on the beach bar Chiringay. That era has ended: in June 2026 Chiringay announced its permanent closure after 45 years, three months after the authorities sealed it over unlicensed building work inside the natural park. The beach itself has sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets and lifeguards in season. Since April 2026 the island's buses (run by Alsa for the Consell d'Eivissa) use a new, renumbered network, and in summer 2026 local press listed lines A7 and P3 for Ses Salines; check alsaibiza.es for the stop nearest Es Cavallet and the current timetable, as older guides still give the pre-2026 line numbers. If you drive, the car parks can fill by late morning in July and August, so go early. When the levante (east wind) blows, the water gets rough and cloudy.
Some directories, including GayOut's own listing, describe cruising in the dunes behind Es Cavallet. We don't give directions there. The dunes are part of a protected natural park and some areas are fenced off. A biologist quoted in the Spanish press has warned that constant traffic through them breaks up the dune system and kills the plants that hold it together. Sex in public isn't a crime in Spain unless minors or people with disabilities are present, but obscene exhibition can be fined €100–600, and this is a family beach as well as a gay one. Keep nudity to the sand, get dressed before you walk back to the car park or bus stop, and take anything more to a licensed venue.
Practical tips
- Season: most of the scene runs from about April or May to October. In winter, only a few bars open, and mostly at weekends.
- Bring ID to clubs and darkroom bars. They are 18+.
- Valuables: as anywhere crowded in summer, phones, wallets and bags are easy targets. Never carry a phone or wallet into a darkroom in an open pocket, and never leave a bag alone on the beach.
- Consent: in a darkroom, a hand moved away means no. You can always say no, step back or leave.
- Apps: with so few venues, Grindr and similar apps do a lot of the work in Ibiza, especially among visitors. Meet in a bar first.
- Health: if you need PEP after a risk, go to the urgencias (A&E) of the public hospital within 72 hours. Be wary of chemsex at private parties, and never mix GHB with alcohol.
- Prices: July and August are expensive and busy. Book accommodation early, and expect to pay superclub prices at the big clubs.
- Cuarto oscuro – darkroom. Cabinas – cabins.
- Vila – what locals call Ibiza Town (Eivissa in Catalan). Dalt Vila – the walled upper town.
- Sa Penya – the old fishermen's quarter below Dalt Vila, where Calle de la Virgen runs.
- Playa nudista (Spanish) / platja nudista (Catalan) – naturist beach.
- Orgullo (Spanish) / Orgull (Catalan) – Pride.
- Ambiente – "the scene"; a bar de ambiente is a gay bar.
- Hierbas ibicencas – the island's herbal liqueur, drunk chilled after dinner.
- Urgencias (Spanish) / urgències (Catalan) – A&E, the emergency department.
Pride and events
Ibiza Pride takes place in early to mid June. The twelfth edition, under the motto "Ibiza, donde nace el arcoíris" ("Ibiza, where the rainbow is born"), ran on 6 and 9–13 June 2026 between Sant Antoni and Ibiza Town, with a beach day on s'Arenal in Sant Antoni, talks, comedy and theatre. The march on Saturday 13 June set off from the Es Pratet sports centre, crossed the centre of Vila and ended at Es Martell in the port, where the manifesto was read, before a closing concert on the Escenario Visibilidad at the foot of Dalt Vila. We found no confirmed dates for 2027 in October 2026; check the Ibiza Pride channels in spring.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a gay sauna or cruise club in Ibiza?
No gay sauna that we could verify in October 2026. Spanish directories list a men-only club in Figueretas, Deep Club 61 on Calle Galicia, with cabins, a darkroom and a bar, but it has no website and we could not confirm its current hours. The old cruise bar La Muralla in Dalt Vila is listed as permanently closed, and the s'Anfora disco closed in 2016.
Which gay bars in Ibiza have a darkroom?
JJ Bar at Calle de la Virgen 79, one of the oldest bars on Ibiza Town's gay street, is listed with a darkroom and a balcony over the port. It is listed as open nightly from April to October and at weekends in winter, from 10pm. One Spanish directory also mentions a darkroom at Bar MonaLisa, but we could not confirm it.
Is cruising in the Es Cavallet dunes legal?
Es Cavallet lies inside the Ses Salines Natural Park, and parts of its dunes are fenced off to protect them. A biologist has warned that people climbing into the dunes damage plants the ecosystem needs. In Spain, obscene exhibition in public can also be fined €100–600 under Ley Orgánica 4/2015. We don't give directions to the dunes and don't recommend them: use the beach for sunbathing and a licensed bar or club for anything more.
Is Es Cavallet a gay beach?
Es Cavallet is an official naturist beach of about 1.1 km in the Ses Salines Natural Park, south of Ibiza Town. The northern end has been popular with gay men since the 1980s, although its landmark beach bar, Chiringay, announced its permanent closure in June 2026. It has sunbeds, showers, toilets and lifeguards in season, and buses run to Ses Salines in summer. Keep nudity to the sand and stay off the fenced dunes.
When is Ibiza Pride?
In early to mid June. The twelfth edition ran on 6 and 9–13 June 2026 between Sant Antoni and Ibiza Town, and the march on Saturday 13 June went from Es Pratet through Vila to the port, where the manifesto was read, followed by a concert at the foot of Dalt Vila. We found no confirmed dates for 2027 in October 2026.
