An absolutely idyllic place... ideal for those who love surprises. Their work ethic is so fascinating that they close whenever they feel like it, making up imaginary rain, even though the weather that day was completely dry. A round of applause for their work creativity
The descriptions are not enough to FULLY recommend this walk. I was born and live in Bs As. I've travelled a lot. I can’t get enough of saying that q Bs As is a city far superior to many good cities in the world. But I didn’t know about this and I’m even ashamed I never visited him. The place is beautiful. Huge. Watch out. Maybe the toilets should be better maintained. There were many staff and none working to make the bathrooms dignified. I'm ashamed of that, too. The skyline views of bs as crazy. The diversity of birds. Everything really amazing. Keep in mind that on weekends you cannot do the tour with the bike. Super recommended.
An excellent place with rich biodiversity! Plenty of birds to observe and enjoy!
My husband and I were having a couple of days in BA before getting on our cruise ship. We first came here in 2018 so it was definitely on our list of things to do. It’s greatly improved since our first visit. More paths and trails with plenty of information boards. The security seemed better with staff on the entrance and exit. The toilets were definitely improved! Great to get some shade during the hot day. Plenty of birds to see. Definitely recommended
This address marks the main entrance at the southern end of the reserve. The only other entrance is at the north end near the eastern termination of Cecilia Grierson. This information is important since, as the reserve trail map pictured here shows, the layout around three small lakes means that any walk must either (a) double back to where it started; (b) complete a full loop around one or more lakes; or (c) begin and end at the these two entrances. The "trails" are much more like fine gravel roads, built to accommodate bicycles and even fire trucks (as the hydrants at points along the trail indicate). Even with these qualifiers, this reserve is a jewel in a city with many excellent parks and large green spaces. There are many birds for patient birdwatchers, lovely views of the lakes and the Puerto Madero skyline, and a large picnic area along the Rio de la Plata. Give attention to the park hours (closed on Mondays), and be aware of reports about other closures due to weather events.
I was very excited to add 46 new bird species to my life list, courtesy of Javier, our guide. He was punctual about picking up my husband and me in Palermo and drove the three of us to the reserve. Soon after approaching the wall of the reserve Javier began pointing out birds. Often he would hear a sound, identify its source, and set up his scope for viewing. Altogether he pointed out 58 species. He was generous in providing tips on birding techniques and equipment. And he dropped us off at an excellent pizza establishment.
We had a lovely couple of visits to the reserve, it really is an oasis from the crushing heat and the hustle and bustle of the city. We saw around 70 species of birds which was a real joy. We had hoped to reach 100 but sadly the reserve was shut on Christmas Eve (our last day) - we’d missed that during our research but birds are pretty plentiful around the surrounds of the park so we still had an enjoyable day. It’s a bit of a shame it doesn’t open till 8am as the sun is already quite strong and the temps high in summer. But there is plenty of shade to provide relief. We had been advised to be security conscious with camera equipment etc (it is after all within a large city) but we had no concerns at all. There are regular security patrols and workers driving the trails and other visitors were genuinely there to enjoy recreational time, we didn’t see any individuals that caused us any concern. We would certainly visit again if we returned to BA.
Good that plans to build skyscrapers at the costanera or even open garbage dumps here, were abandoned. Still you sometimes get a feel of going through an artificially created space, when you explore the reserve. Perhaps it is because there are wide dirt roads on man made dikes surrounding different sections of the reserve. Also right on the river banks you can often see debris. Patches of park are maybe also not very helpful in creating a going through nature effect. I especially liked the wetlands and lagoon areas in the center of the reserve, as plant and bird life is plentiful here and you can walk on wooden pathways. Due to its proximity to central BA it is a great place to retreat and walk, hike or cycle and get away from the urban hustle and bustle.
Wonderful nature reserve right next to Puerto Madero. Great place to relax, run, watch nature, and take a break from the busyness of Buenos Aires. And it’s free.
We enjoy are walk around Reserva ecologigical Costanera Sur. It is a beautiful place to walk. However, they should get rid of the trash at the south part of the trail, around the river. It would be nice to have guided tours to identify the different types of birds in the area.
A very large and bike-friendly place. The views of the river are lovely, and the path is nice too.
I absolutely love this place! It's ideal for walking, running, cycling, or simply strolling. It's beautiful and well-maintained. A wonderful place to disconnect from the chaos of the city.
Ideal for disconnecting
A great place to spend some time outdoors, excellent green space.
I love this place, it's incredibly peaceful when there aren't so many people.
A lovely space for walking, running, or simply spending the day. It has restrooms and areas to sit and enjoy nature.
Everything clean and well-maintained.
The best place in the city. We have to take good care of it. And it's free.
