The Eagle is New York's best-known leather bar, on West 28th Street at the western edge of Chelsea. It has a ground-floor bar, an upstairs level and a rooftop deck that is busy in summer. The crowd is mostly gay men into leather, gear, bears and fetish, and on themed nights the dress code is enforced at the door.
It opens in the late afternoon on weekdays and earlier at weekends, and closes at 04:00 every night. It is quiet before 23:00 and busy after midnight, especially on Friday and Saturday. Drinks cost Manhattan prices. Check the calendar before going, because party nights may have a cover charge and a stricter door.
