Brenton Bushbuck Lookout
Visitors frequently praise the well-equipped accommodation and the hosts' attentiveness, with many describing it as a "home away from home" and a "magnificent stay." However, a significant complaint involves a lack of municipal and backup water during one guest's stay, leading to difficulties with basic amenities.

We stayed for 7 nights over December and for the last two there was no municipal water and no backup water, for 2 days and nights we carried in rain water from a garden tap in a bucket to flush the toilets and washed our bodies with a bucket and bottled water with a facecloth. We requested a refund and were offer 1 night, we felt a minimum of 2 nights was reasonable, but the host didn’t just disagree they retracted the offer of 1 nights refund and stated nothing would be refunded. The situation and the reaction to it by the host was and is intolerable for someone hosting other people at a fee, via the Airbnb resolution process after much difficulty we were only refund 30% of the 2 nights. Another massive issue, is that there is a municipal “sewerage reticulation system” within meters of the main bedroom, so when it is on for maybe 10min of every 30 min repeatedly, it sounds and feels like there is airplane engine in the room. To list some other unacceptable issue, the host has 4/5 cat which unless you look through the full detail of the listing which I guess we missed, if like us you don’t know about it until you arrive and as much as they say they don’t go into the guests unit, they do and knowing now we would not have booked. To list other issues, 1 others have already commented in the reviews (via Airbnb reviews and other sites), the unit is dark with little natural light the space in the photo of the “patio” is misleading, the space is encroached by bush and like the unit is dark and squashed, 2, also noted by other reviews, the kitchen is cramped when washing dishes you are literally sitting on the washing machine, 3, the host allocates parking under a tree that makes your car filthy, 4, there is no outlook on anything other than a water fetcher, as suggested in the title of the listing so don’t be fooled about looking at the sea based on the listing title, 5, there is really no mobile provider reception in the unit, and honestly not everyone only operates and works only off whatsapp call so it was a issue while trying to work
Everything works in the house as specialy the shower were hot with good pressure. Well done. We had an awesome stay! Thank you for showing as the awesome view over the cliff.
We stayed three nights with our wonderful hosts at Brenton Bushbuck Lodge. One of the best self catering places we have ever stayed at. ❤️ Thank you both for a magnificent stay. We will be back. Luv to you both Clint & Margaet
Absolutely outstanding 👏🏻 👌🏻 the attention to detail...thanks Esme.
We stayed 2 nights at one of the most well equipped self catering accommodation. 2 bedrooms - both ensuite- perfect for 2 couples traveling. Brenton Bushbuck Lodge is tucked away in a nature reserve. For us it is exactly what we love - close to nature and not too far off the beaten track. Esmé and Julie were fantastic hosts, keeping us up to date with the ever changing load shedding schedule. The lodge is equipped with an inverter to power up lights, TV and WiFi and a little gas stove so load shedding wasn't too much of a nuisance. This is one of the most well equipped places we have stayed in. Being downstairs, it did get a bit dark as a lot of natural light gets blocked out. We loved the beautiful scenic walk down the road and thoroughly enjoyed the Brenton on Sea surrounding - such a beautiful, well kept town. After a struggle with the washing / drying machine, because it was a bit fancy for me, we managed to do our laundry which was a bonus. We felt very safe in the surroundings. The Butterfly Blu restaurant - within a 5 minute drive, is a wonderful option for sun downers and dinners. We highly recommend this lodge and would definitely go back for a stay, if possible, a longer stay.
