A beautiful old building with a great atmosphere. However, comfort is somewhat lacking. The rooms are very basic and, with windows facing the courtyard, unfortunately quite dark. Breakfast was also very limited; there's definitely room for improvement there.

The rooms are very old and furnished. The toilet door can't be locked, and the floorboards creak with every step. The service was friendly, and the breakfast was okay.

Super nice staff

A very pleasant *** hotel About once or twice a year I return to my old hometown of Linz and look for a hotel to stay in. This time, we chose the Hotel Wolfinger for the first time, right on Linz's main square. It couldn't be more central. The tram stop is just a few meters away, and it's perhaps a five- or six-minute walk to the old town and the state theater. Basically, all the main sights in the city center are easily accessible on foot. When we made the reservation by phone, we were informed that we could drive right up to the hotel to unload our luggage – the hotel had obtained a special permit for its guests. The reception is then reached by climbing a few steps. We received an extremely friendly welcome and were immediately informed that hotel guests could park at a discounted rate in the large parking garage located directly under the main square. The reception is staffed 24 hours a day. The rooms are pleasantly and individually furnished, very well-maintained, and have modern bathrooms (hairdryer, tissues, shower cap). Ample storage space and decent mattresses. Some of the rooms are located along the long side of the building, which stretches towards the old town, in the typical rear building of the period. A few steps lead up to these rooms, but they are very quiet. At the front of the main building, there is an elevator from the reception area to reach the upper floors. In summer, with the windows open, it will certainly be a bit noisy up there, as many outdoor cafes open on the main square. However, you have a lovely view of the huge square and the Trinity Column. Next to the reception is the spacious breakfast room, again with a delightful view directly onto the main square. The breakfast is exceptional and puts many a four-star hotel to shame. Currently, you can even squeeze your own glass of fresh juice. Filter coffee is available, as well as another coffee machine that offers a variety of other coffee specialties. There are many types of tea, fresh pastries, etc. Everything you could want for a proper breakfast is there. Next to the reception is a vending machine for drinks, and there was also a shoe-shining machine somewhere. There is no longer a restaurant on the premises, but the main square and the adjacent old town offer countless restaurants of all kinds to suit every budget. I find the complex generally beautiful – we stayed in the rear section, which is "only" 250 years old. However, the building was first mentioned in the 17th century, and it boasts many delightful architectural details typical of buildings from that era – it's clear that great care was taken to preserve the Baroque charm of the complex. Imposing granite columns, delicate wrought-iron railings, and massive stone slabs on the floor. We found the value for money to be excellent, we enjoyed our stay very much, and in the future, we will definitely choose Hotel Wolfinger over the chain hotels we've stayed in previously.
