Queer Bar is positioned in the Oltrarno — the "other side of the Arno" that locals have always considered more authentic and less touristic than the north bank. Via dei Serragli is a long residential street in the heart of the Oltrarno, lined with artisan workshops, independent restaurants and neighbourhood bars. Queer Bar fits this character: it is an explicitly LGBTQ+-welcoming space that operates as a normal neighbourhood cocktail bar with particular appeal to the queer community. The interior is small and warmly lit, the cocktails are well-made and not overpriced for Florence (a city where tourist pricing is ubiquitous), and the crowd is a genuine mix of local gay men and women, artists and designers from the surrounding neighbourhood, and LGBTQ+ visitors staying south of the Arno.
