An excellent hotel in a real castle, with a reception staff and service that were very attentive and helpful. The breakfast was luxurious. The room was perfect, and the bathroom fixtures were truly luxurious. The location was ideal, at the foot of Arthur's Seat (a 10-minute walk and a 10-minute drive from downtown).

A beautiful hotel right on the mountain and close to the city center. Exceptionally friendly service! We were there with our Rhodesian Ridgeback and were given a separate room for breakfast so he could stay with us. The breakfast was truly fantastic. Thank you so much!

First of all from the website you would never know you are in the middle of a University campus. We had a ground floor room (room 10) deluxe (really?) double room and had a train of people walk past our window at eye level. We had blinds but had to put our lights on because they darkened the room which negated the privacy of the blinds. Curtains were pulled the whole time we were there. We asked to move but they were fully booked with one room only available that was not ready. We were shattered from a long journey so stayed put. We have stayed during our trip at other luxury hotels and this is NOT one of them. The initial reception lady on April 29th was really lovely and helpful. Our room was at the end of a very long, convoluted corridor on the ground floor - many suitcases which we struggled to navigate.through doors and corridors with the hotel luggage trolley. We paid 341 GBP for one night in a Deluxe Double Room and deluxe, it was not. Small, overlooked by what I presume is student accommodation with people trotting by all the time. No mirror at the vanity table for ladies to sit and dry their hair - huge mistake - a tiny wardrobe with the obligatory too few hangers and no space to store suitcases. Tea and Coffee facilities, we didn't use. We booked into the hotel restaurant for 6 pm (tired) which was in a lovely 18th century room with murals on the ceiling and HUGE mirrors. A lovely room in a baronial hotel spoilt by the background lift music. I wonder how many other guests suffer through their meal but don't speak up. We asked that the music be changed, started with a bit of Sinatra then went straight to Jazz. We're 64 - not al 60 somethings like jazz. I know music taste is personal so why not play something classy and neutral? The hotel is old and full of 18th century character. I believe the demographic of guests won't be in their 20's, so who was the music in the restaurant and bar for? Staff or guests? We asked to speak to the manager as the ambient music was not the fault of the really lovely wait staff. He was defensive (we were polite at all times) and a little argumentative stating he'd already changed the play list to what he was told we liked. Not true. I spoke to the new lady on reception who listened to my feedback but absolutely clearly could not have given a damn about it. Really, it was that obvious. Why bother if you won't listen to honest, kind feedback? Such a disappointing stay and not worth the price.

A luxurious hotel located in a former baron's estate. A delicious breakfast is served in the dining room, where the original ceiling painting still remains. The hotel is filled with art; walking through the hallways feels like a gallery. We stayed in a standard room; it was small but cozy.

Amazing hotel. We upgraded our room. It was huge! Loved it. Very unique. Locations is great. Had a rental car, wished we would have just parked car and used uber all day. Parking is hard down town. Hotel is amazing. Breakfast was fancy and unique.

A beautiful facade welcomes you into a classic stunning interior with grand well furnished rooms, even a stunning 18th century painted ceiling in the breakfast hall. All staff are nice and spoke pleasantly and were efficient . A great special treat for myself and my girfriend . Rooms had tasteful nice decor , were spotless , very quiet , well equipped , while still feeling like a homely retreat. Relaxing gardens surround the hotel. Appreciation deserved to the many , some unseen involved in our memorable stay .Thankyou.

Nice hotel, very cozy. Really good Scottish style. The staff were friendly and helpful. A short bus ride from the center. Their restaurant was nothing to write home about, I had steak and the meat was half fat and full of gristle. Maybe I was unlucky, but for 400,- I would recommend finding another place in town. Haggish is delicious. Beautiful country and nice people. 👍

Dog friendly and not far away from the centre

It is very nice hotel with convenient parking, we book for just a night, our room was just next to the bar on the ground floor and I was very worried it would be noisy, but it wasn't. I slep very well and I am happy with the hotel, it is pet friendly, providing beds, bowls, treats and even towels for the dogs. Bathroom is very spacious, a little bit cold, I would prefer to be warmer in the Bathroom. Breakfast was okay, would prefer more vegan options, but for 1 or 2 nighs is great even with the provided options. Building is very beautiful.
