The honest summary: Brisbane has a handful of real gay and queer venues, not a strip. Three carry the weight: The Wickham and The Beat Megaclub in Fortitude Valley and the Sportsman Hotel up the hill in Spring Hill. Around them are a queer bar in West End, a queer-owned laneway bar and a Saturday club night. We found no LGBTQ+ bar opening or closing in 2025 or 2026.

Legal in one line: sex between men has been legal in Queensland since 19 January 1991, the age of consent has been an equal 16 since 2016, same-sex marriage has been legal across Australia since December 2017, and conversion practices have been banned in Queensland health settings since 2020.

The Valley

The Wickham at 308 Wickham St says it has been an LGBTQIA+ venue since the 1970s. It has drag, DJs and a beer garden stage, and a kitchen doing pizzas and pub meals. It opens daily at 10am and closes at midnight Monday and Tuesday, 2am Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and 3am Friday and Saturday. It's the place to start a night, and the crowd is mixed.

The Beat Megaclub at 677 Ann St was founded on 12 November 1983 and calls itself Australia's longest-running nightclub. It opens Wednesday to Sunday with DJs on six dance floors and drag every night; Google lists 8pm to 3am. Reports in September 2026 said the building had been sold for A$13 million to a developer. The operator told Star Observer the lease carries a no-demolition clause until 2035, QNews called it a new 10-year lease, and no redevelopment has been announced. Reviews are mixed, and some guests report groping and rough handling by security.

Precious is promoter Harry K's Saturday night at Spice Nightlife, 351 Brunswick St, from 10pm. It started at Enigma in June 2025 and has resident DJs and a drag cast. Its site also lists SoPop on Fridays, which we couldn't confirm as running in 2026.

QUIVR is a queer-owned laneway bar, DJ school and online radio station. Google lists Thursday 5pm to 10pm and Friday and Saturday 5pm to midnight. It's small, so use it for an early drink.

Spring Hill

The Sportsman Hotel at 130 Leichhardt St is known as Sporties, or "The Pub", and says it has served the community since 1989. It bills itself as Brisbane's home of drag and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30am until late, with a bistro. The downstairs Bunker Bar hosts Brisbears den nights and BootCo events, so it draws more bears and leather men than the Valley does. It's closed on Mondays.

West End

Come To Daddy at 208 Montague Rd opened in 2024 as a queer cocktail bar, kitchen and social club, with drag, karaoke, trivia and its Daddiest Daddy pageant. Google lists early closes, between 7pm and 10pm, and no Monday trading. Some nights are programmed for particular crowds, so read the calendar first.

Other nights

Queer parties move around. Thick 'n' Juicy runs at venues such as Wonderland, and FiredUp ran kink events through 2026 without a fixed home. The Melt Festival fills bars and theatres each October and November. Check the Brisbane events page for this week's dates.

Closed or changed

    • Fluffy: the long-running party has ended its regular run.
    • Family, 8 McLachlan St: no current queer night that we could find.
    • Enigma, Spice Nightlife and The Warehouse are general venues that host queer nights, so check the night rather than the venue.
    • We couldn't find 2025 or 2026 evidence for a regular gay night at Sugar, Mobius or Sirens, or for Manhattan Bar as a gay venue.

    Practical notes

    • Fortitude Valley station is a short walk from all the Valley venues. The Sportsman is walkable from Central station.
    • Carry photo ID. Wet scans it at the door and clubs may ask for it.
    • Thursday to Sunday are the busy nights.
