The Comunidad Homosexual Argentina (CHA) is one of the oldest and most influential LGBTQ+ rights organizations in Latin America. It was founded in 1984 — during the return to democracy — in the basement of the Contramano nightclub, and its first public president was activist Carlos Jáuregui. Over the decades the CHA played a central role in the campaigns that led to Argentina's Civil Union law and, in 2010, the country becoming the first in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage. Today it runs advocacy, legal support and community programs from its headquarters in the La Boca neighbourhood.
