For gay visitors to Boston, the South End is the clearest choice for where to stay. It's in the middle of the gay social scene, surrounded by the restaurants and bars that make up daily life in the neighborhood, and walkable to Bay Village and Back Bay. The South End is also one of Boston's most pleasant neighborhoods to be on foot — well-maintained streets, good scale, genuinely nice to walk around.
Back Bay is the next best option. It's more central for the rest of Boston's attractions — Newbury Street shopping, Fenway, the Prudential area — and is a ten-minute walk from both the South End and Bay Village. Hotels here tend to be larger and more corporate than South End boutiques, but the location is hard to argue with.
Boston does not have dedicated gay-owned hotels in the way that some cities do. What's available is gay-welcoming accommodation in or near the gay neighborhoods — professionally run properties where LGBTQ+ guests are entirely unremarkable and the location does the work.

Neighborhood Notes
South End is the choice for walking to gay bars, restaurants, and community events. The neighborhood's streets are quiet but not deserted at night. Parking is very difficult — if you have a car, budget for a nearby garage or use the T. The Orange Line at Back Bay Station and the Silver Line are the closest transit points.
Back Bay offers more hotel variety and better transit connections. The Green and Orange lines both run through Back Bay. You're a ten-minute walk from the South End. Newbury Street puts excellent coffee and food on your doorstep. The main downside is that Back Bay hotels are expensive and tend to be larger chain properties rather than boutique options.
Downtown and the Theater District are adjacent to Bay Village, which is useful if you're specifically there for the older bar scene. Downtown hotels can be good value compared to Back Bay. The Red, Orange, and Green lines converge at Downtown Crossing.
Cambridge is worth mentioning for visitors who are interested in Harvard or MIT or want a different energy from the main tourist areas. It's a T ride away from the South End and has its own small LGBTQ+ scene around Central and Inman Squares.
Pride Week Booking
Boston Pride runs in mid-June. Hotel availability in the South End, Back Bay, and downtown tightens significantly the week of Pride and particularly the weekend of the parade. Standard advice is to book six weeks ahead minimum; popular properties fill faster. If you leave it to two weeks out, you are looking at whatever is left rather than whatever is best.
For Provincetown visits during summer: accommodation in P-town books up for the peak weekends (Bear Week, Carnival, Women's Week) many months in advance. If you're planning around those, treat them as a separate booking challenge from Boston itself.
Practical Info
Boston hotel rates in summer and during major events are not cheap. A mid-range hotel in Back Bay or the South End runs $200-350 per night on a summer weekend. Boutique South End properties are often in the same range but deliver a different experience. Booking.com and direct booking tend to give comparable rates in Boston.
The Logan Airport to South End or Back Bay trip by T takes about 25-35 minutes using the Silver Line from the airport to South Station and then the Orange or Red Line. A cab or rideshare from the airport to the South End costs around $30-45 depending on traffic.
