الكرنفال هو أسبوع المثليين الأكثر ازدحامًا في بروفينستاون خلال فصل الصيف: ثمانية أيام في الأسبوع الثالث من أغسطس تتمحور حول موضوع واحد للأزياء التنكرية وعرض موكب واحد. بدأت رابطة أعمال بروفينستاون (Provincetown Business Guild) هذا الحدث في عام 1978 كحدث ليوم واحد لسد فترة هادئة في شهر أغسطس، والآن أصبح يسيطر على المدينة بأكملها.
الموكب مجاني ويقام بعد ظهر يوم الخميس، ويبدأ حوالي الساعة 3 مساءً بالقرب من Harbor Hotel ويمتد على طول شارع كوميرشال (Commercial Street) عبر وسط المدينة وصولاً إلى ويست إند (West End). يضع الناس كراسي على الرصيف في الصباح الباكر لحجز مكان. بقية الأسبوع مخصص للحفلات: الحفلة الافتتاحية في Boatslip، وحفل الأزياء التنكرية في Crown & Anchor، وحفلات الشاي وعروض السحب (Drag Shows)، معظمها يتطلب تذاكر أو رسوم دخول. تمتلئ بيوت الضيافة قبل عام وغالبًا ما تتطلب إقامات دنيا، وتمتلئ العبارات القادمة من بوسطن.
قدرت الرابطة وجود 150 ألف شخص في شارع كوميرشال لموكب عام 2023، كما أفادت صحيفة بروفينستاون إندبندنت (Provincetown Independent). هذا هو عدد المنظمين لمدينة يبلغ عدد سكانها الدائمين أقل من 4000 نسمة، ولم نجد أي إحصاء مستقل. أقيم الكرنفال الثامن والأربعون في الفترة من 15 إلى 22 أغسطس 2026 تحت شعار "دييب سي ديسكو" (Deep Sea Disco)، مع الموكب يوم الخميس 20 أغسطس. لم يتم الإعلان عن موضوع وتواريخ عام 2027 عندما قمنا بالتحقق.
