The Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, on Doña Julia Vargas Avenue in Mandaluyong, is a luxury hotel for LGBTQ+ travelers in Manila.
You’re getting a five-star international hotel here, with all the trappings: good service, nice rooms, several places to eat. The French chain’s Manila outpost combines Gallic polish with Filipino craft, so the place feels a bit more local than some of the other chains.
The views of Manila Bay are real, and the grounds are kept up. It’s a quiet spot, a little removed from the city’s constant noise, but still easy enough to get around from.
For LGBTQ+ visitors, an openly welcoming hotel means you don’t have to think twice about things. The Sofitel is a safe bet for quality and service, whether you’re in Manila for work, vacation, or just to check out the city’s scene. It’s a premium experience, no question.

The hotel's biggest highlights are its stunning Manila Bay views and top-notch buffet, featuring a wide variety of high-quality dishes such as foie gras. The breakfast even includes a delightful surprise: Taiwanese tofu pudding. The pool area boasts beautiful scenery and has previously served pizza and smoothies, creating a relaxing resort atmosphere perfect for photos. Inside, crystal chandeliers sparkle, garden hammocks offer tranquility, service is of a high standard, and security checks ensure safety. However, the building's exterior is dated, the room quality doesn't match its star rating, restaurant reservations are difficult and often crowded, there are occasional unpleasant odors near the beach, and parking is limited and expensive. Overall, the views and dining experience are excellent, but facilities and attention to detail could be improved. It's suitable for travelers seeking beautiful scenery and delicious food.
Our 2nd time at Sofitel, we decided to celebrate here for our 26th year together and Mother's Day as well. It was a great stay! We stayed in their suite room, lovely enough to see the beautiful city and Manila Bay. Their suite room has two balcony overlooking the Manila Bay and swimming pool. A very comfy bed and spacious living room. The suite also has a bathtub and take note, Balmain products for their toiletries! We also enjoyed the perks of staying at their suite. We have access to their club lounge where you can chill and relax with free drinks, cocktails, and pica2x. Also, part of the perks is their free snacks at Le Bar and buffet breakfast at Spiral for us four. It's a well spent celebration indeed! We'll definitely come back. Thank you Sofitel, for treating every guest special😊
Quite sad to see it closing... 51 years of amazing one of a kind service We will miss sofitel
The hotel would be closed today, later demolished for good and soon to be reopened with a modern look
