We love staying here. Keep in mind the bathrooms are a bit dated, but the staff, hotel amenities, and location outweigh that.

Always great at the New Sanno! A bit of USA style with Japanese too in Tokyo.

The February 26 Incident began at the Sanno Hotel, where the rebel forces launched attacks on important figures. While it's often assumed that the incident was instigated by radical, fanatical military officers seeking territorial expansion, understanding the background reveals a different picture: the Great Depression of 1929, which led to widespread crop failures in rural areas of Tohoku from 1931 onwards. Nutrition was rampant, daughters were sold into prostitution due to starvation, and families were falling apart. Many of the rebel soldiers came from these impoverished rural areas. Young officers were shown letters from these soldiers recounting their tragic circumstances. Some even handed over small sums of money to the poor rural soldiers. Furthermore, the situation in Japan at the time was marked by widespread corruption among political parties and massive profits from zaibatsu (financial conglomerates) stockpiling. Within the military, internal conflicts between the Imperial Way Faction and the Control Faction were intensifying, leading the military leadership to attempt to demote the radical Imperial Way Faction's young officers (the rebels) to Manchuria. Influenced by thinkers like Kita Ikki, the young officers of the rebel army swiftly moved towards national reform (the Showa Restoration) aimed at establishing a dictatorial regime centered on the Emperor. Why did they choose the Sanno Hotel as their base? Because it was the closest to Nagatacho, the central political center, the hotel had many rooms to accommodate the rebels, and in the event of a siege, it offered ample heating and food supplies. Furthermore, its reinforced concrete construction, considered strong for its time, was said to be able to withstand artillery and gunfire. However, their hopes were dashed when they were widely broadcast as "national rebels rebelling against the Emperor" via radio, advertising balloons, and leaflets. As a result, all the young officers of the Imperial Way Faction were either captured or executed by firing squad... Currently, the New Sanno Hotel is frequented by US military personnel and government officials, and ordinary citizens are refused even the option of having tea inside the hotel for security reasons.

Beautiful hotel and the staff is so nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, but for families it's the best! Can't wait to go back.

Can't beat it for the price. The food in the restaurants is decent to pretty good. Also can't beat the location. The Hiro-o station will get you just about anywhere and is right around the corner (Family Mart is on the walk and 7-11 across the street from the station).
