Ten o'clock on Silom Road: the night market stalls are still selling fake watches under the BTS track, touts wave laminated menus at the mouth of Patpong, and the smell of grilled pork and diesel hangs in the heat. Turn into Soi 2 or Soi 4 and the music changes. Bangkok's cruising happens almost entirely behind closed doors: in the mazes and darkrooms of its many men's saunas, and in a new darkroom club above Patpong that opened at Songkran 2026. There are no licensed porn cinemas or sex shops with cabins, the parks are no place for it, and police raids on private parties are a real risk. Here is what was running in 2026, and how to stay out of trouble.

Legal in one line: same-sex relations are legal in Thailand, and same-sex marriage has been legal since the Marriage Equality Act took effect on 23 January 2025. Saunas and clubs operate openly as private venues for adults. Sex in public is an offence under section 388 of the Criminal Code, prostitution is illegal, drug laws are harsh, e-cigarettes are banned and the legal drinking age is 20. Obscene material is banned under section 287 of the Criminal Code, so there are no licensed porn cinemas or sex shops with cabins.

How cruising works in Bangkok

In Bangkok, cruising means the sauna. The city has a large choice of men's saunas, and most of them have a dark maze, cabins or a darkroom; you pay a few hundred baht at the desk, get a locker key and a towel, and stay as long as you like. The bars of Silom Soi 2 and Soi 4, by Sala Daeng BTS and Si Lom MRT, are where the night starts, and most of them are dance clubs, show bars or terrace bars rather than cruise bars. The one current exception is Boycamp, below. Everyone also uses apps, but meet in a public place first and read the safety section before you invite anyone back.

Silom: the darkroom club

Boycamp · 3rd floor, 109-111 Silom Road (Patpong)

Boycamp opened during Songkran (April) 2026, according to the Thai magazine Friday Bangkok, which describes its concept as "Dance & Darkroom": heavy beats, a hidden zone at the back and dress codes on some nights. The Gay Passport, updated in July 2026, lists a darkroom, a shower area with douching facilities and a glory-hole set-up, and warns that it is "very much not for the innocent". It gives the address as the 3rd floor of 109-111 Si Lom Road, by Patpong, with entry at 500 baht including two drink tickets, walk-in only, and hours of 19:00–00:00 from Sunday to Thursday and 21:00–04:00 on Friday and Saturday. Themes and dress codes change from night to night, so check its Instagram before you go.

Before and after on Soi 2 and Soi 4

For a drink first, Soi 4 has the long-running terrace bars, such as The Balcony and The Stranger Bar, with drag shows and people-watching, and Soi 2 has the big clubs, DJ Station and G Bangkok. They are social bars, not cruising venues. Friday Bangkok's May 2026 round-up also names the show bar EDT.BKK on Soi 4 and the bear bars Cake (Surawong) and Gass (Silom), at around 500 baht a head. The full list is in our Bangkok bars guide.

Sauna clubs: where most of the cruising is

This is a short version; addresses, prices and the full list are on our Bangkok saunas guide.

    • Sauna Mania (35/2 Soi Phiphat 2, off Convent Road, near Silom Soi 4): five levels with a maze, darkroom and cabins; listed as open 15:00–02:00, from about 320–420 baht depending on the source, more on event nights.
    • 1/0 Sauna (113/11 Surawong Road): opened in 2025, with a cruising maze across six floors and a colour-coded wristband system showing what you're looking for.
    • Wellmax (basement, Wall Street Tower, 33 Surawong Road): opened in August 2026 with a darkroom among its salt sauna, steam room and ice baths; 400 baht, and it admits men aged 20 to 55 only.
    • Heaven (4th floor, 119 Soi Mahesak): a maze and cabins under a rooftop jacuzzi, popular with bears and older men.
    • R3 (502/373 Ratchada Soi 3, near Phra Ram 9 MRT): six floors with a dark maze and cabins; reviewers describe very dark party nights.
    • Chakran (32 Soi Ari 4, near Ari BTS): the pool-and-garden club, with a dark room and maze.

The Maxwell Onsen on Surawong Road is a Japanese-style bathhouse rather than a cruising club.

    Sukhumvit

Sukhumvit has bars and massage spas but little dedicated cruising. The big venue is KRUBB (1112/112 Sukhumvit Road, near Phra Khanong BTS), a modern social club and sauna with private cabins and themed play suites, a gym, a steam room and a rooftop pool bar, listed as open 14:00–00:00 and 20+ only, with a Monday cage party. Reviewers say it's busiest with young Thai men on weekend nights. The men's massage spas listed around the city are massage businesses, not cruising venues: agree the price and the service first, and remember that commercial sex is illegal.

Cinemas, video clubs and sex shops

Thailand bans obscene material under section 287 of the Criminal Code, and sex toys are classed as prohibited goods, so Bangkok has no licensed porn cinemas, video clubs or sex shops with cabins of the kind found in Europe. We found no gay adult cinema confirmed as operating in 2025–2026. The video rooms inside the saunas fill that gap. For what you can and can't buy, see our Bangkok shops guide.

Closed: Babylon (Soi Nantha) closed in 2020 and its building is gone; Farose 2 (Ramkhamhaeng), raided in 2021, has no confirmed reopening.

    Outdoors and in public

Bangkok's parks are busy public spaces, full of joggers, exercise groups and families from early morning. We don't send you to any of them. Cruising in Bangkok happens indoors, and there are licensed venues open every day of the week.

The law on public sex, and your safety:

    • Section 388: under section 388 of the Thai Criminal Code, indecent exposure and other indecent acts in public are punishable by a fine. Parks, public toilets, shopping-mall toilets and the river piers all count as public places.
    • Police: being gay is not a crime, but being caught in the act in a public place can mean a trip to the police station and a fine. Stay calm and polite, carry a copy of your passport, and ask for the Tourist Police (1155) if you need an English speaker.
    • Robbery: quiet corners and strangers' rooms are where thieves look for men who won't go to the police. Carry your phone, one card and a little cash, nothing more.

Police raids, drugs, vapes and spiked drinks

    • Raids mean drug tests: when Thai police raid a party, they usually urine-test everyone present. In December 2024, Thong Lo police raided an underwear party in a hotel room in Watthana: of 124 men, 66 tested positive, and those who did were sent to rehabilitation. In November 2025, police raided a party in a hotel suite in the same district: 29 men were detained and four were charged after urine tests and searches found crystal meth, ecstasy, ketamine and poppers. The event had been advertised privately to adult men and found through online monitoring. Under sections 113 and 114 of the Narcotics Code, users can be sent to compulsory treatment.
    • Foreigners: foreign nationals who test positive can face charges and deportation, as after an October 2025 raid on a Bangkok nightclub. If a "private party" or a sauna event looks like a chemsex session, leave.
    • Cannabis: since late June 2025 it has been prescription-only, and smoking in public can be fined.
    • Vapes: e-cigarettes have been banned in Thailand since 2014, and the ban applies to tourists. Under the Customs Act, possessing them can bring up to five years in prison, a fine of four times the value of the goods, or both, and they are confiscated even if you didn't know the rule; importing them carries up to ten years. Leave yours at home.
    • Spiked drinks and theft: drugged drinks and theft by men brought back to hotel rooms are known risks in Thailand's nightlife. Watch your drink being poured, don't leave it unattended, don't accept drinks or "vitamins" from strangers, and meet app dates in a busy bar first. Tell a friend where you are, and leave valuables in the hotel safe.

A Bangkok night, the local way

Start on the street: moo ping (grilled pork skewers, sweet and smoky) with a little bag of sticky rice from a cart near the BTS steps on Silom, or a small bowl of dark, rich boat noodles on a plastic stool. Wash it down with a cold Chang or Singha, or a cha yen, the sweet orange Thai iced tea poured over crushed ice. When Soi 2 and Soi 4 empty out towards dawn, look for a stall ladling out hot jok (rice porridge) with ginger and an egg, or khao man gai (chicken rice), then take a Grab home.

    Practical tips

    • Entry: pay at the desk, in cash in baht if possible. Expect about 200–600 baht at the saunas and 500 baht at Boycamp, often with drinks included. Bring your passport or a copy: several venues check ID and some have age limits (20+ at KRUBB, 20–55 at Wellmax).
    • Dress code: at the saunas it's a towel or the shorts they give you. At Boycamp, themed nights may have an underwear or fetish dress code, so check first.
    • Lockers and phones: lock your phone, passport and cash away and keep the key on your wrist. Never take photos inside cruising areas.
    • Consent: a light touch is a question, and a hand pushed away means no. Wristbands and colour codes are a guide, not a promise: you can always say no or walk away.
    • PrEP and PEP: the Thai Red Cross Anonymous Clinic, at 104 Ratchadamri Road in Pathumwan (a short walk from Silom), offers HIV testing, PrEP and PEP; phone +66 2251 6711 to check the day's hours. Out of hours, go to the emergency department of a hospital. PEP must start within 72 hours, ideally within 24. Most saunas hand out condoms and lube.
    • Getting home: the BTS and MRT stop around midnight. After that, use Grab or Bolt, or a metered taxi, from door to door.
    • Emergencies: Tourist Police 1155 (English-speaking), police 191, ambulance 1669.

    Pride and big weekends

Bangkok Pride Festival 2026 ran from 28 May to 1 June, with the parade on 31 May along Silom Road to the National Stadium; the saunas and Silom clubs were packed all week. Dates for 2027 had not been announced at the time of writing. The other big weekend is White Party Bangkok around New Year (from 29 December 2026), when prices and crowds rise. For a weekend at the beach, see our gay Pattaya guide.

Frequently asked questions

Where is gay cruising in Bangkok?

Almost all of it is indoors. The saunas around Silom and Surawong, such as Sauna Mania, 1/0 and Wellmax, have mazes, darkrooms and cabins, and Boycamp on Silom Road is a dance club with a darkroom. Further out, R3 on Ratchada, Chakran in Ari and KRUBB on Sukhumvit are the big sauna clubs, and most men also use apps.

Is there a darkroom bar in Bangkok?

Yes. Boycamp, on the 3rd floor of 109-111 Silom Road by Patpong, opened in April 2026 as a dance club with a darkroom, showers and a glory-hole area. The Gay Passport lists entry at 500 baht with two drink tickets, open from 19:00 on Sunday to Thursday and from 21:00 to 04:00 on Friday and Saturday. Check its Instagram for themed nights.

Is outdoor cruising legal in Thailand?

No. Sex between men is legal, but any sexual act in a park, toilet or other public place can be fined under section 388 of the Criminal Code. Bangkok's cruising happens in licensed saunas and clubs, so stay indoors.

What happens if police raid a party in Bangkok?

Usually everyone present is urine-tested for drugs. In December 2024, 66 of 124 men at a hotel party tested positive, and in November 2025 four men were charged after a raid on a hotel suite. A positive test alone can lead to charges or compulsory rehab, and foreigners can face deportation.

Where can I get PEP in Bangkok?

Go to the Thai Red Cross Anonymous Clinic on Ratchadamri Road, a short walk from Silom, for HIV testing, PrEP and PEP. PEP only works if you start it within 72 hours of exposure, and the sooner the better. When the clinic is closed, a hospital emergency department can start it.
