Absolutely beautiful establishment. The architecture is unique and welcoming. Also, great that they have a public space for working and studying

Most pretentious place I’ve ever been, from the rude staff at the front desk to bar. Even the customers acted entitled across everyone i came across….when has “please and thank you” become a novelty.

This hotel is great and Clark and Ron are some of the best staff members ever! They are kind, helpful and respectful. We’ve stayed here multiple times and love everything about it, especially the location. We will always use this hotel for our stays! Unfortunately, if you plan on going to the club downstairs, prepare to bring three forms of valid ID if you are 25 and older. The older bald bouncer with a beard, has rudely refused my husband and I three times, stating our IDs are fake, with no other explanation, no scanner, nothing. While I understand we look young and hot, we are also 25 years old and paying guests. Head of security will not take responsibility for his employees actions either, as we had three employees arguing with us that our IDs were fake (even though we had just come from the bar upstairs staffed by the same hotel and been in the club prior lol). Paying as much as you do for the hotel, it’s a bummer that you have to argue and ask for them to call the cops to verify your valid ID just to have a good night - especially when the club is an advertised perk. I sincerely hope the hotel considers training said employees on how to verify out of state IDs moving forward, as they clearly have little to no experience.

Great location, rooms are decent size for NY, minimalist vibe with accent lighting and great block out curtains to overstay your stay. It’s a vibe.

The hotel is ideally located! It's possible to participate in sports classes on the 17th floor with an incredible view of the city. The service is very automated (which can make the experience impersonal).

There is a hidden $50/night “access fee” you’ll be charged upon arrival. So be warned. I really enjoyed staying at The Hudson, and recently heard a Public is going in at the old Standard in LA, so was excited to give this a try. I’d much rather just pay $50 more a night than get hit with a surprise mandatory fee for amenities. It taints the whole experience. Because now we’re looking for amenities. And what I’m seeing is a hotel hell bent on thinning the staff as much as possible and cutting corners. iPads phasing out the front desk staff. Storage lockers so guests can check their bags themselves, again, to eliminate personnel. The poor housekeepers don’t have carts, they’re dragging around suitcases with towels bursting out of them. For the staff they do have on the hotel side, they are quite lovely. Managers and housekeepers are quite nice. This place feels less like The Hudson or The Mondrian, and more like if Starbucks Reserve added a hotel (seriously, the amount of people on laptops in the lobby is staggering). But hey, there’s free coffee. Or at least that’s what they say. It’s only offered from 6a-8a…a time when no guest of a Schrager hotel is going to be awake…so I can only assume it’s available.

PUBLIC Hotel perfectly captures the energy, creativity, and style of New York City. The hotel itself is stunning, with beautifully designed rooms offering incredible views over Manhattan. The wood-and-concrete aesthetic feels both modern and warm, while the iconic escalators in the lobby create an immediate wow factor from the moment you arrive. One of the greatest strengths of PUBLIC is that it feels like much more than a hotel—it is a complete lifestyle destination. The location in the Lower East Side is fantastic, putting some of New York’s best restaurants, bars, and neighborhoods within easy reach. PUBLIC is not just a place to sleep—it’s an experience. Stylish without being pretentious, lively without being overwhelming, and one of the most memorable hotel stays we’ve had in New York.

From our favorite hotel in New York to the one hotel we will now tell everyone to avoid. We were loyal guests. Five stays over the years, every single time we came to New York, including a penthouse for New Year’s Eve last year. Five years ago, I had even left a Google review that said: “The best hotel in New York, quite simply.” I am writing this so you understand how far this hotel has fallen in our eyes, and why. Our first night in room 1209 was a disaster: the air conditioning was so loud that sleep was impossible. We reported it the next morning and were moved to another room. We appreciated the gesture, until we discovered that the second room had exactly the same problem. After an entire afternoon spent trying to rest, with earplugs, to the roar of an air conditioner, we had to face the obvious: the rooms were unusable. So instead of enjoying our stay, we packed our bags, scrambled to find another hotel, and moved across the city. We checked out in the early afternoon, not by choice, but because we had given the hotel every chance to fix the problem, room after room, hour after hour. The front desk then told us we would not be refunded for the unused night because we “left too late.” We were, in effect, penalized for our patience. But here is the part that truly disqualifies this hotel: we wrote three emails. Three. Polite, detailed, factual emails, asking simply for a refund of the one night we never used. We did not even ask for the first ruined night to be refunded. Not one of those three emails ever received a reply. Not a refusal, not an apology, not an acknowledgment. Nothing. Total silence. A noisy air conditioner can be a technical failure. Ignoring a loyal guest three times in a row is a choice. It tells you everything about how much this hotel actually values its clients once the payment has gone through. The rooms failed us, the front desk failed us, and then management simply decided we were not worth answering. We used to recommend this hotel to everyone we knew. We will now do the exact opposite, with the same enthusiasm. There are plenty of hotels in New York where guests are treated with basic respect. This is no longer one of them.
