The rooms are nice enough. Modern and clean, though getting a little tired. The faux fur throw on the bed looks like it's seen better days. The metal shelf in the shower was on the verge of falling out of the tiled wall. The body wash, shampoo and conditioner top quality and smell nice. No body lotion in the room. Hairdryer powerful enough. I found the bed comfortable but quite low down. The auto shades are frustrating. I did like being able to have all the lights on low first thing in the morning. The service is really lacking. Repeatedly had to wait a long time to order drinks. Ordered french fries and a hummus plate with drinks and after 45 minutes canceled the food order. It shouldn't take that long for such basic food. Prices are high but typical of LES & SoHo. Coffee is good, breakfast sandwich terrible - rubber eggs, questionable sheet of cheese and overpowering garlicky tappenade. Who wants garlic in the morning before work? It would really help if the Louis team took names for coffee orders, it's pretty chaotic down there in the morning. Fitness room is large with plenty of equipment, however skip the treadmills. They are not secure or leveled correctly and I bounced all over the place while running. I tried three machines and all the same. I ended my workout early to avoid an injury. Try it and you'll see exactly what I mean unless you weigh under 100 pounds. The fitness room was also dirty with left behind shopping bags, clothing, used towels and empty cups everywhere. I expect more and will not return here. There are so many other hotels to stay at while in NYC.

At first, I was hesitant that The Public would be able to live up to how highly they present themselves online. But my experience went beyond expectations thanks to the wonderful staff. Specifically, Mia R., a Director of Guest Experience, made sure my stay was so comfortable that I will be back over and over again.

Really could not get on board with this hotel. Pure style over substance. Ridiculously overpriced with one of the smallest rooms I’ve ever had in my life. It was a cupboard. Tiny poor quality bathroom. Felt cheaply done and full of influencer TikTok types. Avoid!
