Über dieses Event
Provincetown Carnival ist das größte Einzel-Event im Provincetown-Gay-Kalender — eine Woche aus Themen-Partys, Galerieeröffnungen, Kostümevents und Straßenfesten, die in einer kostümierten Parade entlang der Commercial Street kulminiert und 60.000 Menschen in eine Stadt mit 3.000 Einwohnern zieht. Carnival findet in der dritten Augustwoche statt und läuft seit 1978. Jedes Jahr hat ein Motto — frühere: Hollywood, Superhelden, Königliches, Under the Sea — und Wagen, Kostüme und Beiträge sind aufwendige Ausarbeitungen dieses Themas, von einfallsreich bis spektakulär. Die Parade zieht über die Commercial Street vom East End ins West End, rund drei Kilometer, mit Zuschauer*innen, die drei und vier Reihen tief stehen. Die Carnival-Woche umfasst offizielle Tea Dances im Boatslip, Themen-Nächte im A-House und Crown & Anchor sowie die allgemeine Verstärkung, die 60.000 Gäste in einer Stadt für 3.000 mitbringen. Unterkunft acht Monate im Voraus buchen; die Zimmerpreise sind auf Jahreshöchststand. Das Event ist der beste Ausdruck dessen, was Provincetown kann und was kein anderer Ort in Amerika so liefert.
