Hotel Abberdeen

We arrived at this hotel very nervous from reading previous reviews which has prompted this review. We stayed for 2 nights (Tues and Weds) which are probably a little quieter than weekends. The location is right in the city centre and was perfect for what wanted. Comments about the lovely staff we found to be accurate and expressing our anxiety about the place we were given a ground floor (renovated room) it seems renovations are in progress and other rooms are in a poor state. Our room was clean but admittedly not renovated to a very high standard. Overall we got what we paid for, a 2 star hotel in a central location. Lina and the staff are doing a great job with not much to work with. Better than we expected reading these reviews and no complaints from us.
The hotel was very well located and clean. The staff were pleasant, although they only spoke English. We came to Brussels for a weekend of intense heat and thunderstorms. When we arrived at our room under the eaves, it was stiflingly hot. There was a small standing fan, though. The skylights above the bed were open during the storm while we were out, so the sheets got wet. The bedding and sheets were adequate. The major drawback of this room was the bathroom, which was far too cramped with a tiny sink, no towel rack, and the toilet was right in the doorway when you got out of the shower. No pun intended!
We would like to thank Alexandr; he was very helpful. He also helped us catch the train. The hotel's value for money was satisfactory; we were pleased.
Horror hotel. You enter the room creaking, sit in bed, and sink because the bed slats are missing—or rather, they're there, but they're all loose and move or fall off. The bed creaks a lot. The room is very uncomfortable and not clean. There are no windows that look outside, only into the hallway, so if you leave the light on from outside, you can see through. The walls are so thin that anyone who passes by and opens their room feels like they're walking into yours. Turning on the hallway light lights up the room. The bathroom has no door, it's right next to the bed. The sink and shower are right next to each other; if you shower for more than 3 minutes, there's a risk of flooding the entire room. The toilet is separated by a curtain and has a peek-a-boo window onto the hallway. There's a TV, but no remote, so it's just there for show. On the second day, at 6:45, the alarm went off, and obviously no one from reception was there because they work the 7:00-11:00 shift. At 7:00, the receptionist arrived and, without apologies or explanations, turned off the alarm and sat down, as if nothing had happened. The location is excellent; you're in the center, you can reach virtually anywhere in 10 minutes, and the metro is 100 meters away. The girl who was there on the second day was very nice, polite, and friendly. She explained a bit about places to visit and where to eat, speaking excellent English. The other receptionists were also smiling. Overall, you can't sleep well, and the housekeeping is lacking... absolutely not, sorry.
Perfect location for touring Brussels … the hotel is small … clean and the service is adequate… for a two stars hotel this is really value for money
The receptionist made it all worthwhile! What a kind, helpful, smiling, funny, and polite young woman! Zina, if you want to come to Brazil to work at my company, your job is already guaranteed 😅 The rooms are simple, but the mattress is good, I slept very well. It's very close to the Grand Place and for the price it's very worthwhile for those visiting Brussels who spend the day out and about and only go to the hotel to sleep.
