Worst hotel I've ever stayed in in Germany. - My room was in a different building, on the 4th floor, with no elevator. - Right next door is an area where beggars congregate. I was approached and harassed while I waited for the night porter to open the door electronically. - The door to my room was broken and didn't close properly. - The toilet is so close to the sink that I could have washed my hair sitting down in the basin. I had to squeeze in. There's more space in the toilet of an inside AIDA cruise ship cabin. - After about two minutes of showering, the sink overflowed because the drain was clogged. - The heating was incredibly noisy (air in the pipes). - The walls are so thin that I heard snoring and gasping from the next room all night. - In the morning, I noticed old bloodstains on the pillows under the covers. - I then removed the bed sheet and found many black specks, not lint, and they were hard. Dead insects? - - Even check-in took unnecessarily long. - I wanted to discuss the problems at check-out, but the employee simply said proactively that he couldn't issue an invoice. He didn't even ask how my night was; he probably already knew the room. At around €90 a night, this is completely outrageous.

1. I arrived at the hotel on April 18, 2026, at around 00:05 and asked the receptionist if there were any available rooms. The receptionist told me that there were no available rooms. 2. I then left the hotel and checked Booking.com, where I saw that rooms were still available. I returned to the reception desk and told the receptionist that the rooms were showing as available on Booking.com. I asked if I could make a reservation. 3. The receptionist told me that I could make a reservation. I then made a booking for the night of April 17–18 through Booking.com. I was only planning to stay for about 8 hours anyway. 4. After making the reservation, the receptionist told me that the booking had not yet appeared in their system and that I needed to wait about 5–10 minutes. 5. However, instead of 5–10 minutes, I was kept waiting for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. During that time, there was no progress or update. 6. When I asked again, the receptionist told me that the reservation had finally appeared in the system. However, this time I was told that I needed to pay a €50 deposit. 7. I explained that I had €35 in cash with me, that I also had a €200 banknote, and that I could also pay the deposit by card if needed. 8. However, the receptionist refused to accept the €35, refused to accept the €200 banknote, and also refused to accept a card payment for the deposit. 9. I then asked why I had been kept waiting for so long and why this information had not been explained from the beginning. 10. After that, the receptionist created a new reservation for me and charged me again through this second reservation. 11. I believed that this new reservation would replace the first one and that the original reservation would be canceled and refunded. 12. However, the receptionist later told me that this was a completely separate reservation. 13. The receptionist told me that I would need to handle the cancellation and refund of the first Booking.com reservation myself. 14. At that time, it was also not possible to get a refund through Booking.com. 15. Current situation: Both reservations were eventually refunded. However, they wasted around three hours of my night, and I had to wake up early the next morning. 16. I definitely do not recommend this hotel.

Everything bad, nothing good. Check bad reviews first here and on bokking and agoda before you come here.

The room was dirty, and there was an unpleasant smell. The cups were also not clean. The hotel feels old, and the location is not ideal, especially for a female solo traveler, as the area felt unsafe and there were people nearby smoking weed. The one star is for the reception staff, who were very helpful and kind.

Very difficult; it wasn't clean, and the fresh bath mat was always placed on the drain. In addition, the street is very busy and noisy. People party loudly until the early hours of the morning. And in the adjacent streets, drugs are being used in public.

No wardrobe, no kettle in the room. The room was cleaned in stages. The cleaner took hours. Cleanliness was so-so; there were fleas on the bed on the first day. Red carpet in the hallway and old wall paint. Breakfast was good. An extra charge (an idea by Mr. Kufen) was levied upon arrival.

A very bad experience. The hotel is extremely run-down and looks old and neglected overall. The room smelled unpleasantly of old, musty carpet. The worst part, however, was the mold in the shower, which is completely unhygienic and simply unacceptable in any accommodation. The condition of the room made the stay very unpleasant. I unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel at all.

Great experience, quiet hotel, fantastic location, friendly staff! This will be my first choice for future trips.

I was very disappointed with my stay at the Hotel Ambassador Essen. Upon entering the room, I immediately noticed its dirty and neglected condition – the carpet was grimy, and the entire room smelled unpleasant and musty. Many areas had clearly not been thoroughly cleaned in a long time, and the smell made the whole situation even more unpleasant. The hotel's surroundings also contributed to a less than pleasant atmosphere. The area is unattractive and uninviting, especially in the evenings and at night, which made me feel unsafe as a solo traveler. Despite its central location in the pedestrian zone, the surroundings are anything but cozy and not conducive to lingering.

Nice hotel but very very dodgy area with drug deals going on right outside the hotel.
