Bute Park (Cruising Area)

Bute Park is Cardiff's largest green space, running north from Cardiff Castle along the River Taff. Its wooded northern reaches around Blackweir and the Sophia Gardens riverside path have a long-standing reputation as an after-dark gay cruising area. As with any outdoor meeting spot it is informal and legally ambiguous — activity is discreet and tolerated rather than official. The UK decriminalised same-sex activity in Wales in 1967 and has strong anti-discrimination protections, but public-place laws still apply. Visit with the usual precautions: stick to lit main paths if unsure, tell someone where you are, and be aware that the park is busy with dog-walkers and families by day.
