Novotel Toronto Centre

It's a shame the receptionists don't speak French.
My wife and I stayed at this centrally located hotel on a side street for 7 nights in early June. The taxi ride to the hotel, which took about 45 minutes, cost 70 CAD plus tip. We received a friendly welcome and a complimentary upgrade to a Junior Executive Suite on the 8th floor (presumably due to my Accor Gold status). Beside the front desk is a small mini-market where we stocked up on two sandwiches and soft drinks, since it was already late in the evening and the restaurant wouldn’t be open much longer. The room was spacious, with hardwood floors instead of carpet, a large TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, safe, air conditioning, amenity kits in the bathroom, and a radio alarm clock with wireless smartphone charging - everything you’d expect. In addition to the spacious desk, the suite also had a sitting area with a sofa, chair, and table. The 8th floor is already in the sloped roof area, but that didn’t significantly affect the size of the room. The only thing I missed was the usual luggage rack; we had to leave our suitcases on the sofa and the armchair, which could easily be fixed. We didn’t visit the pool on the same floor or the gym. A hearty breakfast with exceptionally friendly service. I had booked it in advance, so you receive breakfast vouchers at the front desk that you hand in at breakfast—in any case, the service staff here also appreciate an extra tip in the morning. Room service also handled its duties with flying colors. The hotel is definitely more of a tourist hotel than a business hotel, so at breakfast you see fewer grumpy people in suits and ties, but instead smiling tourists and the occasional child (and Sometimes you see entire tour buses full of tourists). Right nearby is St. Lawrence Market, as well as smaller shops where you can stock up on things like bottled water. A Hop-On Hop-Off bus stop is a 5-minute walk away. Across the street, there are three or four restaurants and pubs. The “Old Spaghetti Factory” is so large that you have a good chance of getting a table even without a reservation. All in all, I would book this hotel again anytime - despite the price being quite high by European standards.
We spent one night there as part of a holiday trip. The hotel is clean, the room very comfortable, and the breakfast very complete.
Well situated hotel near the better parts of Toronto. St Lawrence market, for food and coffee, is just down the street. Access to many other parts of the city are convenient as well. The rooms are small to medium size for the upgraded rooms. Service was mediocre giving one strike for us having to ask to clean the room. For the kind of money they’re charging, should be automatic. Parking is simple but expensive. For being in downtown this hotel is a good place to stay.
