The first floor women’s bathroom had moldy shower curtains and dirty sinks. I found a house centipede in the room and named him Carlos (there’s Carlos in the picture attached). Breakfast was okay but the kitchen wasn’t so great. The fridge had water leaking from it and it did not look sanitary whatsoever. There is also a nice patio to lounge on. The staff were nice. Location wise you could walk to a bus stop to get to the beach or the park. I’ve also included a photo of how occupying a room there would realistically look like for five people on the first floor. :) Note for employees there: Please fix the fridges, buy more cooking supplies, clean the bathrooms more and often in the afternoon when most people are out.
Stayed here for Pride weekend. It's close to a lot of shopping and restaurants. Learned that they are closing this place. I wish it were still open. Cute area and friendly staff :)
The hostel is OK. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are well-maintained, and the beds could be more comfortable. The location is excellent. The hostel is located in an old tenement building in a quiet neighborhood. It's quiet and safe, both. Parking is available (additional fee, but it's available). Breakfast is typical of American hostels and motels: toast, jam, cereal, yogurt, and coffee, but there's a large kitchen where you can cook your own meals. Storage and refrigerator space are available for guests. The downside is that the vending machines only accept coins, which can be a bit of a hassle if you arrive late in the evening.
First when we arrived they told us the hot water is not working (they arranged something with a gym 15min walking for showers, but they could have told us earlier not at check-in time with the option of not staying and get a refund, but too late for look another time place to stay). After that we had to pay 34$/night for the parking which you can have or not spot cause there are only a few and parking in the street is impossible. Once we got the room it was someone’s stuff inside. We had to change room to another one. Bed uncomfortable, you have to put the bedsheets by yourself and the towel is not a body towel. Next morning breakfast- poor! Only cereal and milk, toast and frozen waffles, coffee and apple juice. Not even eggs or sausages. You have to clean the dishes too. Water and food machines completely empty, only small water bottles at $2’5. Elevator extremely slowww. Only two bathrooms per floor. If you are in one aisle and you wanna go to the girls bathroom you have to go all the way to the other (instead of unisex bathroom or two in each side). The only good thing it was the pool table and table soccer. And the location is not bad.
A very nice hostel. It's a real shame that it's closing soon. We were able to explore Chicago very well from there.
Clean! Friendly staff! Cool neighborhood
