Watery Walk with the SLO Beaver Brigade - California

Join us for a guided tour of beaver habitat on the Salinas River in Atascadero! Together we will walk to a section of the river where beavers live. A member of the SLO Beaver Brigade team will share information about beaver biology and behavior, how to identify signs of beaver activity, and the many ways that beavers benefit our ecosystems. But most importantly, you'll get to immerse yourself in the beautiful, lush habitat created by this keystone species in the middle of our arid county.This event will involve walking on a sandy, uneven trail through the riverbed. We will also be walking in water, which may reach above your knees in some spots.We ask folks under the age of 18 to please register themselves and an adult to accompany them.Parking: Parking is available alongside side the road near the trailhead. No bathrooms.Pets: While we love pets, we ask that furry friends who are not service animals remain home on this adventure. Tell them we said hi!Hike: Less than 1 mile, around 50 ft elevation gainCost: This event is completely free to access! We welcome donations of any amount, which help us continue to provide these programs. We appreciate your support and your contribution!Bring: Wear warm layers and sun protection! We will be walking through water that may be up to knee-deep, so wear sturdy sandals, water shoes, or other footwear that can get wet. Walking sticks are encouraged for added stability.Masks are not required during this event, however they are welcomed if wearing one allows you to better engage with the group. PLEASE be mindful of your own and group safety. If you or anyone in your household are not feeling well, do not participate in this event.
