Sobre este lugar Leeward

Leeward is a restaurant on Free Street in downtown Portland, Maine, close to the Arts District and the Old Port. It is best known for Italian-leaning cooking with house-made pasta and Maine produce. It is a mainstream restaurant listed as gay-friendly, not a gay venue. It rates 4.8 from more than 400 Google reviews and is one of the harder tables to book in town. Book well ahead for dinner, especially in summer. The data lists it in the lowest price tier, but expect typical sit-down Portland dinner prices.

Very warm and friendly service! Our waiter checked up on us frequently and made sure our water glasses were never empty. Every dish surpassed my expectations for sure, especially the rigatoni and pork chop. We tried to order the raspberry and peach tart for dessert, but the waiter said they just ran out. However, they were nice enough to treat us to a free strawberry sorbet to make up for it!

The food here is very good and we enjoyed our meal. The standout dish was the local corn pasta - perfectly sweet and with a slight bite from the pickle peppers. The pasta in all of our dishes was cooked to perfection. However, the decor (or lack thereof) really hindered our experience. The space is large and feels empty, making it hard to really settle in and feel comfortable. I think the vacuous space does a disservice to the excellent cuisine, and this restaurant is suited to a more homey, cozy location.

Came with family and tried several dishes - all were good but a few were exceptional. Get the tuna carpaccio and the summer corn pasta! Cocktails are just ok, have had better in Seacoast area

We walked by on our way home and decided to stop in for a quick bite, and we were totally blown away. It’s such an unassuming spot from the outside, so we had no idea we were about to have such a unique and delicious meal. We had the bluefin tuna carpaccio, charred snap peas, focaccia, and pesto pasta, and everything was incredible. The focaccia absolutely stole the show - the texture was almost like cake in the best possible way. I genuinely might need it as my wedding cake lol. Our server, Sierra, was also wonderful and super attentive. On our way out, we learned the restaurant had been nominated for a James Beard Award, and we were like… yeah, no kidding. Such an unexpected find and easily one of the most memorable meals we’ve had here.
