Rote Rübe

The Rote Rübe (Red Beet) is a neighbourhood bar in Hannover's Linden district — the part of the city most analogous to Hamburg's Schanzenviertel or Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg: formerly working-class, now the preferred home of students, creatives and the LGBTQ+ community who want a neighbourhood feel rather than a city-centre gay district. Linden's Limmerstraße is Hannover's alternative high street, lined with independent shops, vegan restaurants and bars that operate without a commercially defined identity. The Rote Rübe is gay-friendly rather than gay-specific: a bar where queer people feel comfortable and constitute a significant part of the regular clientele without the venue presenting itself as an exclusively LGBTQ+ space.
