My boyfriend and I have been ostracized here multiple times, simply because we apparently didn't conform to the thinness ideal of certain cliques. We were whispered about, laughed at, stared at, and pointed at, only to be secretly amused when they saw how much it hurt us. That's called body shaming! No thanks, we really don't want any discrimination, we're definitely not coming back.
I turned 18 on June 27th and decided to go to the Gay Pig with a friend for the summer party. I drove home from the Pig about an hour ago, and I just have to write this. I've never seen a place with so much love and passion. I saw two men kissing without a shred of fear. I saw two people who were so incredibly proud of their bodies and danced like there was no tomorrow. And it was absolutely beautiful. I'm actually quite shy about my body, but the courage of these people was contagious. I danced with so many people and talked to so many. I drank and wasn't afraid at all that anyone would hate me for it. I was truly, truly proud of myself for the first time. And even when my friend was in trouble, we received so much help, and five people took care of us. I've never seen such a willingness to help. This community empowered me. All my anxieties about my gender identity vanished for those few hours because I felt truly safe. In those five hours, I discovered a new side of myself. I learned so much that night. It was the best night of my life. Thank you so much, Gay Bastard. Love from the redhead Ben. See you next time. I can't wait.
The place to be in Hannover 👌🏼
