About this place Graduate Richmond

Graduate Richmond occupies a converted office building on West Franklin Street near the VCU campus and represents the Graduate Hotels brand's consistent ability to create boutique hotel properties that capture the specific character of their college-town locations. The Richmond property draws on the city's particular mix of Southern history, VCU art school creativity, and the progressive transformation of recent years — the design references Richmond's past without the reverence for Lost Cause mythology that has defined some other iterations of Virginia hospitality. The hotel is gay-welcoming in the manner of the broader Graduate brand: a hospitality company that has understood its core demographic of educated, design-conscious travellers and that has built a culture of inclusion accordingly. The Franklin Street location makes Graduate Richmond a useful base for both the VCU neighbourhood and the Fan District, and it is within reasonable walking distance of both Fielden's and downtown.

I'd like to preface this review by saying that the staff at the hotel are polite and courteous and helpful. The rooms are clean, but cramped. The building is downtown in a decent area. My complaint is with the elevators. The hotel has 3 elevators. When I arrived one elevator was out of service. While I was there, I got stuck in one of the 2 working elevators and had to be rescued by the fire department. When I checked out they had 1 of 3 elevators working. I am not sure why there wasn't an elevator repairman onsite the next day after I got stuck in the elevator. That's why I took one star off of my review.

Really good location. Rooftop bar amazing. Was there for a 3-day business trip. Very nice.

I brought my family here for a short getaway. I did not realize the hotel was located in the area that it was in. But it turned out to be super convenient. You can get to Cary Street and Broad Street easily. There’s plenty of shopping and eating on these two streets. We got the family suite. It was absolutely wonderful. My husband and I had a private room with our own bathroom and the kids shared a bunk bed in the main area with their own bathroom. It was also nice that there were separate thermostats to control the temperature in each room. The suite was very clean. It was super quiet except for the party that was going on on the roof. But it got shut down at a reasonable time. The restaurants are very limited as far as food choices are concerned, but the food that we had was good. The rooftop service was wonderful and the view was absolutely breathtaking. The front desk staff were very nice, especially this particular Caucasian male with curly black hair. I can’t believe I didn’t get his name. He was super friendly. I think our favorite part was the Valet service. All of the gentlemen were good. I did not get the name of the gentleman who worked Valet when we first got there, but he was kind enough to get all of our baggage into the hotel for us. Moreover, Richard and Alexander were amazing. We never felt like we were a bother when we needed our car. They were super friendly, professional and very personable. When you text for your car, you’re allowed to leave them a tip. From what I read the average tip was somewhere between seven and eight dollars. They should get more than that. So, if you stay at this hotel give at least $10. This was an absolutely wonderful time for my family and I would come back to this hotel.

1. There are only two working elevators and they are very slow. There are constantly inebriated people going up and down to the rooftop bar because they don't have enough elevators for guests. 2. There was a fire alarm in the middle of the night for about a half hour. Needless to say it didn't do wonders for our sleep. 3. They didn't have coffee in the morning. You had to pay at the restaurant. Restaurant prices were high. 4. Decor was cute but the place was a bit dirty (see pics). Bedding was acceptable. 5. Staff were nice enough but they didn't have enough help. There was a long wait for breakfast because they were understaffed during peak hours. There were long wait times for the front desk because they had one guy working. One staff lady was very observant and found my daughters watch when it fell off. 6. No pool, limited gym, basically you are paying a premium for a rooftop bar that anyone can walk in off the street and access. 7. All of the parking space for check in says "valet only". There is no place for people to park for loading/unloading. As a long time Hilton Diamond member, I was disappointed with this hotel. They didn't even welcome us as a diamond member which all Hiltons do. It doesn't live up to to my typical Hilton experience. The price is also quite high compared to better hotels in downtown Richmond. I made a mistake booking here and would not stay here again. We come every year for a convention and next year we will be staying somewhere else.

The a/c was not cooling the room. The bed was horribly soft and the pillows were too big and hard!!!

$15 for half poured glass of white wine. Not cool.
