Tulsa is Oklahoma's second city and arguably its more progressive one — an oil-money Art Deco city on the Arkansas River with a genuine arts scene and an active LGBTQ+ community centred on the Midtown area.
Gay Bars & Clubs
- The Colony — Tulsa's main gay dance club; drag shows, themed nights, and a large dance floor. The anchor of Midtown LGBTQ+ nightlife.
- Soundpony — indie bar in Midtown with a notably queer and alternative following; live music and a welcoming mixed crowd.
- Lola's at the Bowery — gay bar and lounge with cocktails and a relaxed atmosphere; popular for early evening.
- TigerBar — gay bar near downtown with drag shows and a neighbourhood feel.
Tulsa Pride
Tulsa Pride is in June — parade and festival in the Midtown/Greenwood area. One of Oklahoma's largest Pride events; the Greenwood location is significant as Greenwood was the historic site of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, and Pride's presence there carries particular meaning about community resilience.
Midtown
The Cherry Street and 18th & Boston areas of Midtown Tulsa are the de facto LGBTQ+ neighbourhood — a cluster of independent restaurants, bars, and the city's arts venues. The Philbrook Museum of Art and the Gilcrease Museum (both outstanding) are nearby and LGBTQ+-welcoming.
