חוף וֶרוֹנג
Visitors praise Werrong Beach for its secluded, wild, and rugged natural beauty, with some enjoying the nude sunbathing opportunities. However, common complaints include the difficult and steep bushwalk access, the presence of leeches, and the significant loss of sand on the beach, which is now mostly pebbles.

Took a wrong turn on the trail to figure 8 pools and ended up in Werrong beach. If you are like me and weren’t aware, this is a Nudist beach. We were determined to get to figure 8 pools somehow and started climbing the rocks on the coast towards it. Please do not try that as it’s quite dangerous, even during low tide. Anyway, we came back to werrong beach and lay on the pebbled shore soaking up the sun, views and the waves.
Beautiful little beach but very rocky and strong undercurrents. I read it was nudist but no one else was there at all when I visited and I felt safe stripping off. The walk is straight forward but steep on the way out and on the day I visited plenty of leeches about. I screamed!
Werrong Beach is a secluded, wild, and rugged stretch of coastline in the Royal National Park, south of Sydney. Known as Sydney’s only official nude beach, it is accessible only by a challenging bushwalk, making it a hidden gem for experienced hikers seeking solitude and natural beauty. --- 🌊 Location & Access - Situated in Royal National Park, about an hour south of Sydney. - Access via Werrong Beach Track: A steep Grade 5 trail, 4 km return, taking 1.5–2.5 hours. - Not suitable for casual visitors: The track is demanding, with uneven terrain and steep descents. --- 🏖️ Features - Secluded atmosphere: Far removed from crowds, offering peace and quiet. - Nudist beach: Officially recognized, attracting naturists and those seeking freedom in nature. - Wild landscape: A mix of sand, rocks, and grassy patches, with dramatic coastal views. - Unique character: Unlike other Royal National Park beaches, it feels untamed and remote. --- ⚠️ Safety Notes - Swimming is not permitted due to strong rips and dangerous currents. - Bushwalking precautions: Visitors should carry water, sunscreen, and inform someone of their trip intentions. - Park entry fees apply. --- 🌟 Why Visit? Werrong Beach appeals to those who value privacy, natural beauty, and adventure. The journey itself is part of the experience, rewarding hikers with a rare, untouched coastal environment. It’s not a family-friendly beach, but for seasoned walkers and nature enthusiasts, it offers a sense of discovery and tranquility that few Sydney beaches can match.
Werrong Beach has officially reopened by NPWS after being closed for a few year. The track has deteriorated in places, but it's still fine. The beach itself has lost a lot of sand, but is still incredibly beautiful, and there are lovely grass areas to sunbathe nude. Noticed a few people walking the rainforest track nude when we were there (we did too). While most people at beach were male, around a third were women.
Fantastic beach that has been closed far too long (since 2022). Will reopen in late August 2025.
