Gay Cruising in Antwerp: The Honest 2026 Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
Step out of Antwerpen-Centraal, the station locals call the railway cathedral, and the city is all stone, gilt and tram bells. Walk north towards the Scheldt and it changes: the narrow brick streets of the Schipperskwartier, the old sailors' quarter, where the river wind smells of diesel and rain and the red window lights of the harbour district still glow after dark. Have a bolleke of De Koninck and a paper cone of frieten first, because the night here starts late. Antwerp's cruising scene is small and almost entirely indoors: one long-running fetish bar, one dance club with a cruising floor, and one gay sauna across town. What it lacks in size it makes up for once a year, when Darklands brings leathermen from all over Europe.
Legal in one line: Belgium legalised same-sex marriage in 2003 and is one of Europe's most LGBTQ-friendly countries. Cruise bars, clubs and saunas are legal venues. Sex where the public can see you is not: since 2022, the old offence of openbare zedenschennis (public indecency) has been replaced by an offence of exhibitionism.
The Schipperskwartier: where the action is
Both of Antwerp's cruise venues sit in or just north of the Schipperskwartier, the historic harbour and red-light district between the old town and the Eilandje docks. They are about 400 metres apart, so you can try both in one night. These are ticketed indoor venues with staff, lockers and house rules, not outdoor spots.
The Boots: Antwerp's fetish institution
The Boots (Van Aerdtstraat 22) has been open since 4 July 1983, according to the club itself, and describes itself as a fetish bar where "people can experience their fetish in a safe zone." Its own site promises six floors with several bars and extensive play areas; guides describe a darkroom, a maze and cabins. The crowd is men, mostly local regulars, with visitors from Ghent, Brussels and the Netherlands.
Membership is compulsory and bought at the door: the club lists a regular membership at €10 (€6 for students under 26), €25 with a registration card, and longer cards at €60 for six months or €80 for a year. Visitor reports of what they paid vary, from €8 or €10 on ordinary nights to €25 for a weekend card during Darklands, so ask what is included before you pay.
Dress codes rotate with the themed nights: leather, rubber, puppy play, army and uniform, sportswear and sneakers, and skinhead. For leather nights the club asks for a full leather outfit or at least a leather "eye-catcher". It also runs special events, such as a Horse Fair and a Slave Market, on a regular basis. Opening hours differ between listings (roughly Thursday or Friday to Sunday, from the evening until 03:00–05:00 at weekends), so check the agenda on the-boots.com before you go.
Club Random: dance first, cruise later
Club Random (Geulincxstraat 28) calls itself "one of the most famous gay clubs in and around the city of Antwerp." It is a dance club first: a bar, a dance floor and live DJs downstairs, with a video lounge, locker room and a cruising area upstairs, which some guides describe as a labyrinth. The club says its slings are sponsored by Steeltoys. Travel Gay notes that it was taken over and renovated by three new owners in 2021.
Regular hours are Friday and Saturday 23:00 to 08:00 and Sunday 21:00 to 06:00 ("at least", as the club puts it), plus the nights before Belgian public holidays. It gets busy late, after 03:00 on weekends. Entry depends on the party: in October 2026 the ADDICT Techno Party (Saturday 17 October) is €15 at the door with a drink, and ARON's B-Day Bash with drag shows (Sunday 25 October) is free. Random also hosts Kinky's Antwerp, a men-only Sunday-afternoon party with a strict dress code (naked, underwear, jockstrap or leather), €10 including a drink voucher and a locker token. Reviews are mostly warm about the staff and music; one visitor complained of being filmed without consent, so keep your own phone away and speak to staff if anything feels wrong.
Other listings
Some international directories still list a cruising venue called The Black Hole on Van Schoonbekeplein, without hours, a website or recent reviews. We could not confirm that it is operating in 2026; treat it as unverified.
Closed: The Kinky's, the private cruise club at Lange Beeldekensstraat 10 near Antwerpen-Centraal, closed permanently in October 2021, according to Travel Gay. The Kinky's name lives on as a party series at Club Random.
The sauna: 't Herenhuis in Berchem
Sauna 't Herenhuis (De Lescluzestraat 63, 2600 Berchem) is Antwerp's gay sauna, in a converted 19th-century townhouse south of the centre that has operated as a sauna since 1999. Inside: a dry sauna and steam room, a jacuzzi for about 15, a relaxation area, private cabins, a video room, a sling room and a bar with drinks and snacks.
It opens every day from 12:00, until midnight from Sunday to Thursday and until 01:00 on Friday and Saturday. Entry is €22, €18 under 30 and €15 under 25 (with ID); on Wednesday, the "Happy Day", it drops to €18, €16 and €14. Two towels are included, condoms and lube are free, and you can come back within four hours for €10 if you keep your ticket. Reviews are mixed: people like the cosy atmosphere and the prices, while others mention ageing showers and lockers and a crowd that skews older. Check gaysaunaherenhuis.be for current prices.
Darklands: the big leather week
Every late winter, Darklands, widely described as one of Europe's biggest fetish events, takes over Antwerp, with a fetish market, demos and night-time parties. In 2026 it ran as Beyond Darklands from 3 to 9 March at Waagnatie on the Scheldt quays (Rijnkaai 150). The Boots and Club Random both run special programmes that week, and prices go up with demand. One listing gives 16–22 February for 2027; check darklands.be for confirmed dates.
Outdoors: what the law says, and why we don't go there
Belgium rewrote its sexual criminal law with the reform of 21 March 2022, in force since 1 June 2022. The old, vague offence of openbare zedenschennis (public indecency) has been replaced by an offence of exhibitionism: imposing the sight of your bare genitals on others with sexual intent, in a public place or anywhere visible to the public. Simple nudity or relieving yourself no longer falls under it, but sex in a park, a car park or a toilet that someone can walk into or see is exactly the situation the law covers, and persistent behaviour that bothers someone can also be prosecuted as harassment (belaging). For that reason we don't list outdoor spots. With a sauna open from noon and two late-night venues, there's no need to take the risk.
Practical tips
- Bring ID. The Boots sells memberships at the door, and the sauna's youth prices require ID.
- Consent: in darkrooms and play areas, a hand moved away means no. You can always say no, step back or leave, and staff are there if someone doesn't listen.
- Valuables: use the lockers, and keep your phone away in play areas, both for your own safety and for other people's privacy.
- Getting around: the centre is walkable, and the city's Velo shared bikes and De Lijn trams cover the rest. Club Random runs until morning, so plan your ride home before you go in.
- Apps: dating apps such as Grindr work here as anywhere; meet new contacts in a bar or venue first.
- Health: condoms and lube are free at the sauna. Helpcenter ITG (Kronenburgstraat 43) offers free HIV tests and paid STI tests on weekday afternoons by appointment (tel. 03 247 66 66). Het Roze Huis at Draakplaats 1 in Zurenborg is the city's LGBTQ+ community house, with Café Den Draak inside.
- Lidkaart – membership card. Lidmaatschap – membership.
- Kluisje – locker. Handdoek – towel.
- Holebi – the Flemish umbrella word for lesbian, gay and bi (from homo, lesbienne, biseksueel).
- Toestemming – consent. Nee – no.
- Openbare zedenschennis – the old legal term for public indecency.
- Bolleke – a goblet of De Koninck, Antwerp's own beer. Schol! – cheers.
- Merci – thanks; widely used in Flanders alongside dank u.
Antwerp Pride
Antwerp Pride takes place in August. The 2026 edition, themed "Fearless", ran from 5 to 9 August, with the parade on Saturday 8 August; organisers estimated about 170,000 participants and spectators, and the week ended with a closing festival on the Scheldt quays. The 2027 edition, the 20th, is planned for the second week of August, with exact dates still to be confirmed. Expect the clubs and the sauna to be at their busiest that week.

Being gay is fully legal, but sex where the public can see you is not a safe bet. We don't give outdoor directions; Antwerp's indoor venues are legal and safer.
