קרנבל הוא השבוע הגאה העמוס ביותר של פרובינסטאון בקיץ: שמונה ימים בשבוע השלישי של אוגוסט, המבוססים סביב נושא תחפושת אחד ומצעד אחד. ה-Provincetown Business Guild יזם אותו בשנת 1978 כאירוע חד-יומי למילוי שבוע שקט באוגוסט, וכעת הוא משתלט על כל העיירה.
המצעד הוא בחינם ומתקיים ביום חמישי אחר הצהריים, מתחיל בסביבות השעה 15:00 ליד ה-Harbor Hotel ועובר לאורך Commercial Street דרך מרכז העיר ועד ל-West End. אנשים מניחים כיסאות על המדרכה מוקדם בבוקר כדי להחזיק מקום. שאר השבוע מוקדש למסיבות: מסיבת הפתיחה ב-Boatslip, נשף התחפושות ב-Crown & Anchor, מסיבות תה והופעות דראג, רובן בתשלום או עם דמי כניסה. בתי הארחה מתמלאים שנה מראש ולעיתים קרובות דורשים שהות מינימלית, והמעבורות מבוסטון מתמלאות.
