Hotel Mayfair

For an IHG hotel, it is very disappointing. It looks nice from outside, but the more you look, the worse it got. The one lasting impression from our 2 night stay is how dirty this room was - 100% not being cleaned or maintained properly. Other than the amount of dust in the room and bathroom, the bathroom shower had lots of black mould in the white grout, hair on the floor and there was blood and crud on the shower head. Definitely not being cleaned properly each day/ after each guest. The curtains didn’t block out all the light from outside, the ventilation/aircon didn’t work very well unless you dropped the temp heaps, and room was too small for everything in it - full table with chair, and a sitting chair. We spoke to reception about the cleanliness and showed photos of the blood on the shower head. There were no apologies, shock or compensation - Didn’t really care; terrible service. They said housekeeping would sort it out (they only cleaned 3/4 of the room when we returned and that seemed adequate for them) I’ve come home quite sick - can’t 100% say it was from the hotel, but can’t say that it’s not. Only positive - soft comfy bed (but cleanliness questioned)

The Mayfair Hotel looks beautiful and high-end at first glance, but once you notice the details, the luxury feeling disappears pretty quickly. The tables in our room still had cup residue marks from previous guests, which immediately made the cleanliness standards feel questionable. The parking situation was also frustrating. Having to park in a separate private car park and still pay $55 per day (even at a reduced rate) felt ridiculous considering the price of the stay. The bathroom had black mould throughout the grout, and the water pressure constantly changed depending on whether someone else in the hotel was using water, one minute fine, the next barely anything. But the biggest issue was the bed. It was so worn out that you rolled straight into deep body dents from previous guests. It was honestly one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds I’ve slept on. I ended up sleeping on the floor with the doona because the mattress was causing so much back pain. The only real positive is the location right in the heart of the city, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1. Overall, it looks far more luxurious than it actually is, and unfortunately I wouldn’t stay here again.

Extremely disappointed with the Mayfair Hotel Adelaide. I booked three rooms based on a $50 food and beverage credit advertised on their homepage. Despite raising this days before check-in, I was met with constant excuses and conflicting stories. Staff originally claimed the deal was "finished," yet the hotel now claims it was "extended"—all while the website link was broken for two months, providing no terms or way to actually redeem the offer. On top of the misleading advertising, my prepaid room types weren't even available upon arrival. Total lack of transparency and integrity. Absolutely would not recommend.

Very disappointing experience with the hotel maintenance. Had to change rooms due to broken air conditioning only to be moved to a room without hot water, when I raised this with staff I was told I should have just turned the shower and sink on for 5 minutes. Tried to contact the hotel directly and left a feedback form, neither of which I have received responses for.

Nice hotel, great light fittings and comfy beds right in centre of town on edge of Rundle Mall so very central. Service could be improved, rushed through on checkin, little care and regard, just another number. Room Service closes at 9pm - got back at 845pm and rang to reach what must have been the work experience dude who had zero idea if room service existed. And room not refreshed during day. Would stay here again but suggest service levels be lifted to retain stars.

The hotel met all our needs and was comfortable. Friendly staff etc - things you would expect from this type of hotel. However the dining experience at ‘The Den’ was below standard. We are locals but wanted to stay in the city as we had an event on that day, also for early departure the following day to go to the airport. So very convenient location. Room was a good price.

I expected a premium experience at the Mayfair, but what I received was a masterclass in poor hospitality and defensive service. The issues began at check-in. Due to a technical error with their machine, the transaction didn't immediately register. Rather than troubleshooting the device, the Guest Service Agent immediately defaulted to an accusatory tone, asking me, “I think you’re over your limit. Do you have enough money on your card?” This was an incredibly rude and unprofessional first interaction, especially since I was able to immediately prove on my banking app that the charge had successfully gone through. The stay went from insulting to unsanitary when I discovered blood stains on the sheets. When I called reception to resolve this, another Guest Service Agent was entirely unhelpful. When I explained I was in the middle of getting ready for a 5:00 PM meeting but the room would be free for them to fix immediately after, she dismissively replied that the cleaners finish at 5:00 PM. When I asked for a solution, her response was a blunt, “What do you want ME to do?” It is not the guest's job to manage hotel staff or suggest basic solutions like a room change. To make matters worse, there was a total breakdown in internal communication. After being told they would "get back to me" regarding solutions, the first Guest Service Agent showed up at my door unannounced while I was still getting ready, causing further stress. The Manager, Ali, was the only person who eventually stepped in, listened, and actually understood the logistics of the situation. Without his intervention, I’m not sure the issue would have been resolved at all. Post-stay was equally frustrating. I had to call and email three separate times over the course of a week just to receive a tax invoice. The Agent on the phone, Casey, was unhelpful, insisting I put the request in writing and then failing to provide the document after I did so, while giving vague "maybe" answers regarding my request for clarifications as to why there were multiple charges on my card. From being insulted at the front desk to sleeping in an unsanitary room and chasing basic paperwork for a week, this was a disaster. Unless you are lucky enough to deal with Ali, don't expect any level of service here. I will never be staying again.

Not really sure how this hotel earned 5 stars. It’s in a fantastic location but that’s about it. Parking is down the road in public parking. Our shower has black mould in the grout. And the water temperature does not stay steady for more than a minute or so. The staff are really hard to understand with very thick accents from around the world. Our room was only made-up/serviced 2 out of the 5 days we stayed, one of which we had to call down and ask for. The “buffet” breakfast consisted of like 10 items with only machine coffee offered and severely understaffed. The tv’s in the room are limited and you’re not able to cast from your phone - this is really odd to me in 2026. Also charging $15+ to rent movies on said tv. The wifi is ABYSMAL and that’s not an understatement. Not really sure how you can charge such high prices for such a mediocre room/hotel.
