About this place Mayfair Hotel

The Mayfair, a five‑star hotel on King William Street in Adelaide’s CBD, occupies a restored 1930s Colonial Mutual Life building that now welcomes guests with a mainstream, gay‑friendly vibe. The building’s brick façade and original lobby details give the hotel a sense of history that feels more like a home than a hotel. The Mayfair has a track record of backing local LGBTQ+ events, most notably the annual Feast Festival. Within a short walk you’ll find Rundle Mall, the Festival Centre, and North Terrace, while Adelaide Oval sits just across the river. The city’s limited gay bars, including the Mars Bar on Gouger Street, are a 10‑ to 15‑minute walk away, and room rates sit at the high end of Adelaide’s hotel spectrum.

Overall, not satisfied. The positives are that the location of the room and its convenience to the city were noted. Additionally, was grateful for the room service and them being able to attend to cleaning the room regularly from day 2 of stay. However, the negatives were numerous; which included: • Bathroom was not attended to nor completed before my arrival of check-in. Evidenced by noticable dried-up feces or feral matter inside the toilet bowl AND behind the toilet paper roll. Thus, again, indicating no clean was conducted and no fresh toilet paper roll was replaced. • Prejudice to myself from front staff and discrimination of religious beliefs. Specifically, lack of customer support skills, evidenced in myself speaking with some staff members on some queries that resulted in them being abrupt, irritated in nature, inconsistent prosody, and averting eye contact when approaching the front desk to speak. Additionally, requesting alcohol be removed from the bar of the room and to be replaced with water on religious grounds and this was not respected nor acknowledged. • Difficulty in enjoying stay with damaged air-con/ heating system. I had asked for assistance from staff on adjusting the program to have the heating system activated in the room (i.e., given the cold weather) and the functionality of the system was severely struggling; staff were unable to assist on the matter.

Stayed here with my daughter for a few nights. Absolutely beautiful hotel!! Amazing location and the food was delicious. Location is walking distance to the river, food outlets and all the shopping. Very clean rooms, and a super comfortable bed. Also, the ladies at the reception were very police and professional. Will definitely recommend this place to others, and would love to stay here again.

Booked online but wasn't told the hotel was about to close for renovation. No food available, TV didn't work properly, bed had a big hole in the middle.

Very disappointed with the Mayfair unfortunately. I booked the King Corner Suite. Tv would not work, stains all over the floor, and sticky bench tops. I phoned the front desk and unfortunately no other rooms were available. I left about 20min after arrival, though the staff were very lovely and did not charge me the valet parking, I was still required to pay for the room. Located right in the middle of the city with disappointing views of other buildings. Windows do not open and no balcony rooms available.
