Australia is broadly LGBTQ+ friendly with strong legal protections. Sydney and Melbourne have major established gay scenes; smaller cities and rural areas are mostly welcoming, with regional variation.

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras (late February to early March) is one of the world's largest Pride events. Melbourne Midsumma Festival runs January to February. Brisbane Pride is in September.
