Melbourne Queer Film Festival 2026
About This Event

Australia’s longest-running queer film festival, Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF), takes over ACMI in Federation Square every March. You’ll also find screenings at other Melbourne venues.

Since 1991, MQFF has programmed Australian and international LGBTQ+ films: features, shorts, documentaries, and special events. Putting it at ACMI, the city’s main screen culture institution, shows how much both the queer community and the wider arts scene value it.

About 15,000 to 20,000 people come through MQFF’s doors each year. For more than 30 years, it’s been a launchpad for LGBTQ+ filmmakers from here and abroad.

Practical Tips
Grab a festival pass rather than singles — the flagship galas and audience-award contenders sell out first.
Access requests go to info@mqff.com.au; give the team a few days for auslan and captioned bookings.
The Capitol rooftop cafe is the friendliest spot to swap film notes between double bills.
