Ueno Park vanta da decenni la reputazione di luogo per il cruising all'aperto di Tokyo — in particolare i sentieri alberati dietro la grande sala da concerto vicino all'uscita Park della stazione, dalle 20:00 circa, con il massimo afflusso in estate.
Da sapere prima di andare: le regole del Giappone sono tanto culturali quanto legali — massima discrezione, niente effusioni pubbliche e mai fotografare nessuno. L'attività qui è sottile al punto da essere invisibile; se non riesci a leggerla, non sta succedendo. Il vero peso della scena di Tokyo è comunque al chiuso — i bar di Shinjuku Ni-chōme e le saune 24 Kaikan fanno ciò che i parchi fanno altrove.

A huge and very pleasant park in the heart of Tokyo, perfect for taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the wide avenues, the green spaces, and the impressive number of things to discover nearby: temples, shrines, museums, and ponds. You can easily spend several hours strolling around without really noticing the time passing. A lively yet relaxing place that offers another side of Tokyo, and one that I highly recommend during a stay in the capital.
The park is laden with ginkgo trees, and the old trees are all very well maintained.
We arrived on a rainy day, which spoiled the experience a bit, but it was beautiful and it looks like it will be even more beautiful when the lotus flowers bloom.
