The Boilerhouse

We recently had our annual Béar Féile sauna event in The Boilerhouse and we're really happy to give them 5 stars given the sauna was overrun with big bears and there was a queue of people waiting to get in. Staff managed everything wonderfully right down to making sure they had lots of big towels for the influx of big men. That's a level of detail you won't see in many Saunas. The Sauna itself is split over 4 floors with a cafe area on the ground level along with a new additional cruising area with video screens and cubicles. The rest is used for locker rooms. The first floor has had a makeover with the addition of new overnight cubicle rentals (Fri/Sat). Also added is a dedicated room for PREP consultation and HIV testing at certain times. The second floor now has the new whirlpool in place which was BEAR SOUP! during our event. Additionally, a second sauna has now been added giving patrons the option of 2 different temperatures. Also on this floor is a revamped steam room which is now twice as large as it used to be. The third floor has plenty of cubicles (one with a sling) which are always kept very clean with regular checks by the staff. The fourth floor has a dark room and cubicle with another sling as well as a area to watch what video is playing. Well worth the 5 stars.

I have been a regular at the Boilerhouse for a number of years and while they have had some setbacks in the last year (the main one the old hot tub being out of commission) but the place is now rejuvenated with a very comfortable new whirlpool, additional sauna. New overnight cubicles and new space on the ground floor show that while they are the only gay sauna in Dublin, they certainly are not resting on their laurels and constantly adding to what they offer. The staff are very attentive and will always help you out.

Finally, the Jacuzzi is up and running again. Really good job but could be a little darker and more bubbles. The age group has changed over the last few years. Seems to be a lot more younger guys.

After years of frequenting this establishment, yesterday I didn't have a pleasant experience right from the entrance. I've always been well received by the Boilehouse staff, but yesterday I was greeted by a grumpy person, or perhaps someone was having a bad day – let's give them the benefit of the doubt. When I go to Boilehouse, I usually have a lot of shopping bags because I do a lot of shopping, and I always ask the staff if I can leave them at reception because they don't fit in the lockers; and they are always very kind and take my bags without any problem, even joking if I bought something for them. But yesterday, when I asked this person at reception, he immediately gave me a loud, firm "No." I even tried to explain that there were too many, and he rudely told me to try putting them in the locker, and if I couldn't, to bring them to him. But honestly, I had four large bags; they wouldn't fit, and he was incredibly rude, giving me no attention whatsoever. I felt so humiliated that I asked for my money back and left. This had never happened to me there before. I've been going there for years and have always been very well received. I know the reception area isn't the place to leave bags, but is it so hard to be polite and speak respectfully? I only asked because the bags really wouldn't fit in the locker; he could have said, "I think it's better if you come back another day because your bags won't fit in the locker." Anyway, I only asked because they always store my bags without any problems. I wanted to share this because it wasn't nice to be received that way in a place we go to relax.

It’s astonishing the length of time the works are going one here. At this point it’s worse than the children’s hospital. That being said simple things like replacing the furnishings should be maintained. Cracks in mattress (Dark room and a few cubicles) really should be replaced asap as the can never be cleaned properly. I can appreciate by the general nature of the business. Cleaning will always be difficult. And I’m sure when it’s closed a deeper clean is done. From what I witness most of the staff are great but there are one or two ( and not new to the job) too abrupt and over familiar. I’ve been coming here for decades now and thats unlikely to change. But sadly it has dis improved over those years. When the opposite should really be the case.

Myself and 3 others came here on Saturday. Staff were friendly upon arrival, found the entrance fee of 25 euro not to be worth the facilities currently on offer. Small Sauna, heat was fine, enough room for 8 ish. Steam area was ok. Not great if you’re wanting to chill out as it’s quite dark. No hot tub or jacuzzi, think something is being built looking at area currently sealed off. The place is on multi levels, plenty of rooms etc. lots of condoms of Lube provided. If you’re at a loose end then visit, but it’s not worth the price Tag. Wouldn’t visit again when in Dublin.
