I booked this hotel for 4 nights, so that I could go visit the amazing Parque de Torres del Paine and the glaciers, and I was attracted by the lovely photos on Booking and because it’s rated as a luxury hotel, apparently a 5 stars hotel. But it’s nowhere near the luxury experience they promise.
I loved the decor and the location of the hotel, I’ll give them that. Yes, it’s beautiful with the industrial look combined with natural elements like wood, and it’s by the waterfront, so you can appreciate lovely sunsets and go for a walk/run in a scenic setting.
But you feel so badly welcomed here, the beauty quickly fades away.
The nicest person I met was the employee that made my check-out today. The first person to ask if everything was ok during my whole stay.
Apart from him, I’m really disappointed about the service provided. I had a junior suite booked with half-board, which I recalled upon check-in since the lady who received me didn’t mentioned it, and she simply ignored what I told her.
At the restaurant, I was presented each time with a bill to sign, and I had to explain I had half-board. They spoke in Spanish between them and I understood everything, and they were surprised by that and even though the service at the restaurant was already subpar the first time, it got terrible the next nights. Mainly because of the manager, the older gentleman, who wasn’t at all nice and made me feel like a nuisance each time. He simply put the plates on my table without a word and didn’t respond to my gracias or buenas tardes/noches. How rude. Also, the restaurant is supposed to be open from 19:00 to 22:00 and he sent away clients that got there at 21:30-21:40 saying it was closed. Knowing some popular excursions finish late, like the trekking to the base of the Torres, he should be more understanding and allow them to eat since they arrived before 22:00…
In fact, the day I went on the trekking tour, I arrived before 21:30 and I was rushed an my salmon was undercooked. Also, I had no table available (even though I had half-board) and he was once again very rude. He gave me the cutlery that day and the next day without setting the table nice, I felt once again unwelcome. For someone who worked in cruise ships for years, as he told other guests several times, he should know better.
The restaurant and him especially were the worse. But other things were really annoying as well. Once again, if you dine there, ignore the menu. At least one third of the choices was never available, like anything with king crab and most of the soups. He told the same thing several times to guests. Why not print a menu with the options that are ACTUALLY available then? It’s not that hard, seriously.
Also, as other clients commented, the tables at breakfast are not cleaned and prepared for other guests. Things are kept untidy for a long time, so it’s up to you to find an available table even if that means to occupy a table of 4 just by yourself…
At the same time, keep in mind most excursions will start very very early, so you won’t even get the possibility to eat there most of the times. I recommend buying something at the supermarket and storing your food in the mini-fridge.
Then, I asked for a luggage rack, but I was received with blank eyes. “Put your bag on the floor”, was the answer. I’m
There’s also no table in the junior suite, so not practical if you want to eat something in your room before going out.
You put a towel on the floor so that it’s changed? No, you lose that towel. Tip: go grab one from the spa.
You want to sleep well? You don’t. You can hear the wind through the windows’ gaps and the blinds, with that old school string system, will not block the sunlight (yet again, you’re going to wake up early anyway most days).
Another old school thing: you don’t get a card, you get an ordinary key with a huge key ring decoration. I just took the key out so that I could carry it with me more easily.
The gym? A 6m2 oddly shaped room ridiculously equipped.
Tiny cold “pools”.
Help with your luggage? None.
No luxury at all.
