Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa
Many visitors praise the welcoming and friendly staff, with some highlighting excellent service at Gigi's and the beach club, and enjoying the spa and pools. However, a significant number of guests report disappointment with dated and poorly maintained rooms, citing issues like bugs and broken furniture, and some find the resort to be overly loud and unsuitable for families, especially on weekends.

The seawater spa is state of the art. Serenity and plenty of amenities describe a client’s entrance along with excellent check-in service and scheduling. I chose the spa’s premium facial for 60 minutes and the clinician was superb with sequence and application. At my age, I’ve had facials around the Earth from Hawaii through the continental United States to the Caribbean and Mexico and throughout Europe. Seawater Spa’s facial is world class. I also chose a deep tissue massage with arm and leg extensions and salt stones. My female clinician through her exceptional techniques, restored and rejuvenated, eliminating tightness and functional soreness in my leg muscles from excessive workouts and loss of flexibility and tightness in my shoulder from business stress. Rarely have I enjoyed such healing. My highest recommendation and the price of all the services is in my opinion a great value. Do not hesitate, my family will not as we visit Montauk several times a year.
After dinner, we returned to our room and discovered that one of our bags was missing. The bag contained several irreplaceable golf memorabilia items, including a U.S. Open flag signed by multiple professional players and a signed golf glove. I simply cannot believe something like this could happen at a hotel like this. While I appreciate the security guy locating and returning the bag, the entire experience left us feeling extremely unsafe. This incident completely ruined our stay and caused considerable stress and frustration. I would not feel comfortable staying here again.
We loved it - one of the most prestigious boutique Resort with updates that are so fashionable and unique Wonderful white sand beaches and services are beyond Their Spa is amazing and the staff are so nice and welcoming
1/5 – Extremely disappointing experience, nowhere near the standard expected for the price We recently stayed at Gurney’s Montauk for one night to celebrate our one-year anniversary and spent approximately $2,000. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations from start to finish. The problems began on arrival. We were told to leave our luggage in the car in case our room wasn’t ready. Check-in then took far longer than it should have because the front desk agent appeared unfamiliar with the system. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, which was understandable, but we were told we would receive a text when it became available. No text or email ever came. Prior to arrival, we had informed the hotel that we were celebrating our anniversary. Given the price point and reputation of the property, we expected at least some small acknowledgment. There was nothing in the room—not even a note, fruit plate, or welcome drink. We paid to upgrade to a Full Ocean View King room and were surprised by how dated it felt. When we arrived, the door was standing open because it was partially broken and incredibly stiff to open and close. The carpet looked worn, the bathroom was extremely small, and the internet service was unreliable. Overall, the room felt more like a 3-star hotel than a luxury resort. Later, we attempted to order room service and wanted to speak with someone regarding dietary requirements. There wasn’t a room service number listed on the phone. We called the front desk to connect us, but nobody from room service answered. We called again and asked for someone to call us back. Nobody ever did. Eventually, we had to walk to the front desk in person to explain the issues. To their credit, they provided a $100 dining credit, but by that point the service failures were already piling up. Unfortunately, the problems continued. During the night I became ill and was in significant pain after the dinner, which only added to an already disappointing stay. The next morning, nobody answered when we called for luggage assistance during checkout. Checkout itself perfectly summed up the experience. When asked how our stay was, I explained that we had encountered a long list of issues. The response was essentially, “Let me check you out.” I was asked whether I wanted to use the card on file, but when I requested a different card, I was told the card on file had already been charged. There was no meaningful attempt to address any of the concerns I had just raised and no follow-up from management. The final surprise came after checkout. We decided to have a drink on the beach before leaving and, before we could even order a snack, we were asked to provide a credit card on file. For a property positioning itself as a luxury destination, the service was remarkably poor. Between the lack of responsiveness, operational issues, dated room, missed anniversary acknowledgment, and complete absence of proactive customer care, this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had at this price point. I rarely leave negative reviews, but at roughly $2,000 for a single night, guests should expect far better.
Loved every minute can’t wait to go back
