Nice hotel

Hotel and rooms Modern hotel with multiple areas to lounge, lovely big rooms and comfy beds. The only minor issue was the mini fridge, which wasn’t cold. When we asked if it could be looked at, someone came up the same day, which was appreciated. However, we were told it wasn’t meant to get particularly cold as it was a “mini bar, not a mini fridge”, which we found a little confusing! Service Despite other reviews, we found the staff to be great. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. We had accidentally booked a smoking room and, at check in, the staff double checked whether this was intentional and kindly offered to move us to a non-smoking room. Location The hotel is a little out of the way from the city centre, but that’s clear when looking at a map before booking! The surrounding area is modern and affluent, with nice restaurants and shopping malls nearby. One thing worth noting is the extensive construction work currently taking place outside the hotel. It didn’t disturb our sleep, but it made getting far on foot difficult. We had hoped to walk towards AEON Mall, for example, but crossing the road was almost impossible due to the scale of the construction. That said, there are walkable convenience stores, restaurants and cafes behind the hotel. Also, Grabs are readily available and very affordable, so getting around by car/bike is easy. Noise We were occasionally disturbed by traffic horns although we knew the hotel was situated on a busy road. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d suggest requesting a room overlooking the pool, on the other side of the hotel, if possible. Facilities We enjoyed the pool area, although we were disappointed that there were no cushions on the sun loungers. Even after asking, none were provided, so we had to lie directly on the hard slats. The pool area also only gets the sun for a very small portion of the day, which is worth bearing in mind if you’re hoping to sunbathe. There were frequently bits of leaves and other debris falling from the surrounding trees into the pool, which detracted slightly from the experience. We enjoyed the gym and onsen. These facilities are technically in the neighbouring apart-hotel, but access was super easy so this wasn’t an issue for us. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel felt luxurious in places, although some of the finer details could have been better. While it offered good value for money by Western standards, we had expected a little more from a five-star hotel. The construction work was also a shame, although we appreciate that this is totally outside the hotel’s control.

I stayed at this hotel during my trip to Vietnam. For dinner, I had an authentic Japanese set meal at the Goshun restaurant inside Hotel Nikko Hai Phong. The hospitality was just as good as in hotels in Japan.

I used this hotel for a business trip. The staff spoke Japanese, which made for a comfortable stay. There's also a convenience store nearby, which is convenient.
