Hotels in Agia Marina, Crete: an honest 2026 guide

The honest summary: Agia Marina, the beach resort about 9 km west of Chania, has no gay hotels. None of the hotels here markets itself to LGBTQ+ guests or holds an LGBTQ+ certification that we could find, and earlier versions of this page that said otherwise were wrong. What the strip does have is a good choice of mainstream beach hotels, some of them adults-only, which is the most useful filter if you want a quiet pool. Greek law has protected same-sex couples since civil partnerships in 2015 and marriage in 2024.

    Practical notes

    • Season: most hotels open from about April to October. Check dates if you're travelling in spring or late autumn.
    • Nights out: the queer nightlife, such as it is, is in Chania's old town, 15 minutes away: the Apollo Party club night in summer and gay-friendly bars such as Ababa. Buses stop running before the parties end, so budget for a taxi back, or stay in Chania if you plan to go out most nights. See our Agia Marina guide for details.
    • Getting there: Chania airport (CHQ) is about 26 km away, around half an hour by taxi.
