New Continental Hotel

First off the good - staff were very friendly and helpfull and credit to them, the steak I had in the restaurant was very well cooked and enjoyable. The bad. The room was grubby and well overdue for a redecorate - i can tell it had been cleaned but the ingrained dirt and scuffs and scrapes were making it look very tired. Room window looked out onto a concrete wall 2ft away. The only lighting in the room was very bright recessed LED,s so no way to make the room to feel cozy, trust me the last thing this grubby room needed was harsh lighting. The rest of the hotel felt in a similar state, fraying carpet, wobbly chairs and peeling wall paper. Not the best night sleep as the floorboards are very very creaky on every floor.

We stayed at the New Continental Hotel, and it was a lovely place to come back to after a long day exploring Plymouth. The hotel was exceptionally clean, and the staff were genuinely attentive, friendly and helpful. The pool and gym areas were another pleasant surprise — well kept and, during our stay, never too busy, which made them easy to enjoy. The location worked really well for us too. It was within walking distance of the town centre, with shops, parking and a brasserie close by, so we had everything we needed without having to rely on the car. After spending hours walking along the coast and exploring Plymouth, it was nice to have somewhere comfortable and welcoming to return to.

If I could give zero stars I would so we paid over £6000 for our 50th Anniversary to have a sit down meal and a Buffet with our family. We had concerns due to the zero food rating and were assured all food would be fine it wasn’t every single one of the guests that had lamb couldn’t cut it wouldn’t come off the bone at all never seen anything like it the children’s meals for toddlers we ordered ended up being chicken on the bone some of the adults chicken wasn’t cooked and was bloody the beef wasn’t too bad but came with a single skinny strip of carrot caugette and parsnip this is horrific I wouldn’t eat a £8 carvery and expect food of this standard let alone £40 a head. We raised a concern on the day about lamb and were told they would give us a free quiche on the buffet we had already paid to have quiche on buffet anyway. What should have been a wonderful drama free day had almost all guests complaining to us about how awful the food was and some complained to staff. So we wrote up and sent a formal complaint in to be told we will tell the staff we should have complained more on the day sorry we paid 1000’s and we wanted to enjoy the day we had been planning and paying for for over a year. If you have a special event planned don’t book it here certainly not with food.

Very clean with friendly staff and walking distance to Brittany Ferries.

Would have given a 5 stars if the double bed was a proper double bed. It was on the smaller side. On the other hand the staff were lovely and excellent choice of breakfast including full English.
