The honest summary: Campinas is a big, rich university and tech city an hour and a bit inland from São Paulo, and its gay scene is small for a city of more than a million people. In 2026 that means one long-running LGBT+ club, one LGBT+ cocktail bar, a couple of mixed party venues with queer nights, two men's saunas and two cruising bars. There's no gay street. Most of the action sits in Vila Itapura and the edge of Centro, with one cruising bar in Cambuí. The city's Pride parade at the end of June is the biggest queer event of the year in the São Paulo interior. If you're here for work or Unicamp, there's enough for a good weekend. If you want a big scene, São Paulo is 96 km away.
Legal in one line: Same-sex marriage has been available across Brazil since the CNJ's Resolution 175 in 2013, and since 2019 the Supreme Court (ADO 26) treats homophobia and transphobia as a form of racism. Campinas also has one of Brazil's oldest municipal anti-discrimination laws, Lei 9.809 of 1998, which covers refusal of entry or service by businesses and venues.
Where the scene is
There's no gay village, and older guides that call Cambuí the gay district are overstating it. Cambuí is the leafy, upmarket area with most of the good restaurants and hotels, and it's where the Noxus cruising bar is. The LGBT+ nightlife sits slightly west, in Vila Itapura on and around Avenida Francisco Glicério and Avenida Brasil, where Livre Club and Azzur are a few blocks apart. Centro, around Largo do Rosário and Avenida Benjamin Constant, is where the Pride parade runs and where you'll find Trilha do Fran. Everything else needs a car or an app ride.
Bars and clubs
Livre Club Bar, Avenida Francisco Glicério 2165, Vila Itapura. The city's main LGBT+ club, open for close to two decades according to Gazeta SP. Since 2024 it has been run by Bearway Produções, who list the parties on bearway.com.br: Drag Ball on Fridays and HUNTER on Saturdays (both from 23:00), Galpão Mix on Sunday evenings from 20:00, and one-offs such as the 4Girls women's night. Google reviewers like the outdoor bar and smoking area. The dance floor is small and packed on holidays, and a few recent reviews complain about the door staff.
Azzur Lounge Bar, Avenida Brasil 64, Vila Itapura. A two-floor cocktail bar with food, live music and shows, listed by Gazeta SP as one of the city's LGBT+ nightspots. Google lists Thursday to Saturday from 19:00 and Sunday afternoons. It's the easiest place for a drink and a conversation before the club, and it rates 4.6 on Google.
Kitnet Bar, Avenida Francisco José de Camargo Andrade 145, Jardim Chapadão. A tiny Friday and Saturday party bar that calls itself the smallest nightclub in the world, with pop, funk and trap nights. It's a mixed crowd rather than a gay bar, but Gazeta SP lists it with Livre and Azzur as one of the city's diversity-friendly parties.
CAOS, Rua Luiz Otávio 2995, in the north of the city. A big mainstream club, mostly funk, rap and electronic. It matters for queer Campinas because it hosts Baile da Larissinha, a long-running LGBTQ+ funk party, and Pride-weekend parties. In 2026 the official Wolf pre-Pride party with Pocah was held there on 27 June. Check @caoscampinas to see which nights are queer.
Sauna Très Chic, Rua Proença 290, Bosque. The Campinas branch of a Brazilian chain of men's saunas. The chain's website lists dry and steam rooms and private cabins, daily 14:00 to 22:00, with entry at R$40, cash or Pix only. Reviews are mixed: some praise the cleaning, others complain about poorly ventilated cabins. The crowd skews older and bear.
Spa 393, Rua Gonçalves César 393, Jardim Guanabara. A men-only sauna and spa with a pool, dry and steam rooms, private cabins, a video room, a bar and a rooftop, open Wednesday to Sunday 15:00 to 23:00 according to its website. It has very few reviews so far, so message them before going.
Noxus Cruising Bar, Rua Major Solon 580, Cambuí. A lounge bar with dark themed corridors and private cabins behind it. The house rules ban phones and sex work, and condoms and lube are free. It opens Tuesday to Sunday, until 05:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Regulars like the staff and the cleanliness. Some nights are quiet, and reviewers note there are security cameras in the rooms.
Trilha do Fran, Avenida Benjamin Constant 1417, Centro. A small cruising bar that promotes Tuesday and Thursday happy-hour sessions on X (@trilhadofran). We couldn't confirm its current hours, so check X before you go.
We found no outdoor cruising area named in more than one recent source, and none is listed here.
Narnia, on Barão de Itapura, closed with a farewell party on 11 January 2025 after ten years. "Free Club Bar" is the same place as Livre Club Bar, so don't go looking for two venues. Moustache Single's Bar in Cambuí isn't a gay bar. SE7E Spa Men Club appears in some old listings for Campinas, but we couldn't confirm it exists, and if it does it's in Indaiatuba. "The Week Campinas" turns up in old travel blogs with no address, and we found no trace of it.
Pride and events
The Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ de Campinas closes the city's Mês da Diversidade on a Sunday at the end of June. The 26th parade was on 28 June 2026: people gathered from 10:00 at Praça Guilherme de Almeida in Centro, and the parade ran from 14:00 to about 17:30, with activities until 22:00. The 25th, on 29 June 2025, set off from Largo do Rosário under the theme "Envelhecer LGBT+" (ageing LGBT+) and ran along Avenida Benjamin Constant and Avenida Francisco Glicério. The first parade was in 2001, and organisers counted 120,000 people in 2011. The 2027 date hadn't been announced at the time of writing. Beyond Pride, the regular calendar is the Bearway parties at Livre Club and Baile da Larissinha at CAOS.
Community and health
The Centro de Referência LGBTI+ de Campinas, Rua Talvino Egídio de Souza Aranha 47 in Botafogo, is a municipal service that opened in 2003 and is described as the first public LGBT service in Brazil. It offers legal and social support and help with name changes, and it has run collective same-sex weddings since 2013. It opens weekdays 08:00 to 16:00. Identidade, founded in 1998, is the city's oldest LGBT activist group. We couldn't confirm it is active in 2026.
Where to stay
Cambuí is the best base. It's safe, walkable, full of restaurants, and close to Noxus and a short ride from Vila Itapura. Melia Campinas, Radisson RED and I Am Design Hotel are all there, and Dan Inn Cambuí is the budget option on the same avenue. Royal Palm Tower Anhanguera is a large hotel by the highway, better if you're driving. For early flights from Viracopos there's Siesta Box inside the terminal and Pousada Santos Dumont nearby. None of these are gay hotels. They're mainstream hotels that are fine for gay couples.
Viracopos airport (VCP), Azul's main hub, is on the Santos Dumont highway about 15 to 20 km south-west of the centre. Buses to São Paulo's Tietê and Barra Funda terminals take roughly 1h15 to 1h40. In town, Uber and 99 are the practical way to move between Cambuí, Vila Itapura and the clubs at night.
Safety
Campinas is a large Brazilian city, so take the usual precautions. Use an app ride rather than walking between venues late at night, especially around Centro after dark, and keep your phone out of sight on the street. Inside the venues listed here, same-sex couples are the norm.
A few words in Portuguese
