Gay Saunas in Guadalajara: The Honest 2026 Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and Mexican sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
Guadalajara is the capital of Jalisco, the home of mariachi and tequila, and on the surface it's a conservative, deeply Catholic city: church bells, family Sundays, Tapatíos who dress up for Mass. Behind a few closed doors in the old centre, though, it runs one of the freest gay sauna scenes in Latin America. The city likes to call itself Mexico's second gay capital, and its saunas make a good case. On one side there's a new generation of openly gay saunas, Riilax, Polari and Renacer, with big jacuzzis, rooftop pools and design you'd expect in Mexico City. On the other there's an older tradition: the city's baños de vapor, neighborhood steam baths where straight working men and gay men have shared the steam, quietly, for decades. Between them sits La Estación, a cheap cruise club. This guide covers all eight places GayOut lists, and tells you which kind each one is.
Legal in one line: same-sex marriage is legal across Mexico, Jalisco bans discrimination on sexual orientation, and Guadalajara scores 82/100 on the GayOut index. The gay saunas are legal businesses; the only legal edge is public indecency, which matters in the mixed baños.
How to choose: three kinds of place
- The gay saunas (Riilax, Polari, Renacer): openly gay, modern, with steam, dry sauna, jacuzzi and cabins. MXN 200–400. Start here.
- The cruise club (La Estación): dark rooms and glory holes rather than steam. Very cheap and very busy.
- The traditional baños (Baños Guadalajara, Baños San Martín, Club El Arenal, Baños Jordan): steam baths open early in the morning, used by everyone. Any cruising is discreet and unofficial. Read the etiquette section before you go.
- Keep your towel on at all times in public areas. Dropping it isn't an invitation here; it's a fast way to get thrown out by staff or confronted by regulars.
- Take your cue from the regulars. Watch first; never assume someone is interested.
- Keep it out of sight of anyone not clearly involved. Staff will throw people out, and public indecency is a real offence.
- No phones, no photos, anywhere in the building.
- Cash in small notes. Prices are in pesos, and card acceptance varies, especially at the traditional baños.
- A photo ID if you're claiming Renacer's 18–23 rate. Otherwise, a driving licence or similar is safer to carry than your passport.
- Flip-flops help at the older baños. The gay saunas provide towels and lockers.
- Water. Guadalajara is high (1,500 m) and dry outside the rainy season, and steam plus altitude plus tequila dehydrates you fast.
- Door to door after dark. Several of these places are in parts of Centro that empty out at night. Order an Uber or DiDi from inside and step out when it arrives.
- Use the lockers, and bring only what you need: phone, a little cash, no passport.
- App meetings: robberies set up through dating apps happen in Mexico. If you meet someone from Grindr, meet in public first, or meet at a sauna, which is the point of having one.
- Drinks: keep yours in your hand, at the sauna bar as anywhere.
The two worlds draw different men. At Polari or Riilax you'll find young guys from Colonia Americana with good haircuts and better phones. At the old baños you'll meet an older generation of Mexican men, plenty of thick moustaches among them, slipping away for a discreet hour between work and home. Both are part of the city's gay life, and it's worth seeing both.
Almost all of them are in or near the Centro Histórico, within a short ride of each other. Renacer is a little west in Ladrón de Guevara, close to Colonia Americana and Avenida Chapultepec, the city's safest and most modern area for restaurants, cocktail bars and nightlife, and the natural base for a drink before a sauna or a night out. By day, Line 3 of the light rail (Tren Ligero) is air-conditioned, very safe, and links Guadalajara Centro station easily with other parts of the city. After dark, use Uber or DiDi, which are cheap and reliable.

The gay saunas
Riilax · Venustiano Carranza 313, Centro
The city's biggest and probably busiest gay sauna, and the one locals name first. It has the largest jacuzzi in Guadalajara (you can order a beer in it), plus very large steam rooms and a dry sauna, rest areas and a bar. It's busy after work on weekdays and all weekend. Hours: Monday–Friday 12:00–24:00, Saturday–Sunday 11:00–23:00. Entry is around MXN 280.

Polari · Gral. Pedro Rioseco 9, by Nueve Esquinas
The new, design-led sauna, a few steps from the Nueve Esquinas plaza in the old centre. It's spread over two floors with steam, dry heat, a pool, a cabin maze and private cabins, and runs regular themed nights. It's the smartest-looking of the three and, at around MXN 400, the most expensive. Hours: Monday–Thursday 12:00–22:00, Friday–Sunday 12:00–24:00. Check @polari.mx on Instagram for the week's events.
Renacer Day Spa · Amado Nervo 106, Ladrón de Guevara
The afternoon choice. Renacer has a rooftop pool and patio, indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, a dry sauna, a steam room, massage, and plenty of space to wander, and it's at its best on a sunny afternoon. It's open daily 12:00–22:00. Prices are the clearest in town (from the venue's own promotions page): MXN 250 with locker, MXN 200 on Mondays, a two-for-one on Wednesdays (MXN 350 per person), and MXN 200 for ages 18–23 with ID.
The cruise club
La Estación · Av. Enrique Díaz de León Nte 20
La Estación is a men's cruise club, not a steam bath: lockers, dark rooms, porn areas and glory holes in a yellow building with a discreet door, on the edge of Colonia Americana. It's very cheap, about MXN 70 for eight hours, and very busy, especially on Sundays and on weekdays after 5 p.m. Be ready for a lot of stairs. Its hours change often, but lately it has settled into a clear pattern: non-stop from Friday afternoon through Sunday night, and from about 16:00 on weekdays. Check its Facebook page before going midweek.
The traditional baños: read this first
Some context first. The baños de vapor are a deep Mexican tradition. Men come to wash, sweat, get a massage or a scrub (some places still offer the herbal-branch treatment borrowed from the temazcal tradition) and simply rest. For most of the customers that's the whole visit, which is why respect for the regulars matters even more here than in a European sauna.
These are not gay venues. They're neighborhood steam baths, many open since early morning for men on their way to work, and their regulars include straight men, retirees and fathers alongside gay men. Gay guides list them because of what happens discreetly in the steam, not because of anything they advertise. The rules:
Baños Guadalajara · Calz. del Federalismo Sur 634, Mexicaltzingo
The best-known traditional bathhouse, recently renovated, with wet and dry steam, showers, jacuzzis, an outdoor whirlpool, and both shared and private areas. The crowd is mostly middle-aged. Hours: Monday–Saturday 06:30–20:30, Sunday 06:30–14:30.
Club El Arenal · Leandro Valle 944, Centro
A long-standing steam bath with a small gym attached, steam rooms and private cabins. It's affordable, no-frills, local, and has the strongest gay following of the traditional places. Hours: Monday–Thursday 10:00–20:30, Friday 10:00–22:00, Saturday–Sunday 08:00–22:00.
Baños San Martín · Cabañas 72, San Juan de Dios
A neighborhood bathhouse with two steam rooms and two dry rooms, near the San Juan de Dios market. Hours: Monday–Saturday 06:00–21:00, Sunday 06:00–16:00. Go in daylight, and stay alert even then: not just the market but the whole surrounding area, including the square around the Plaza de los Mariachis, is known for pickpockets and some sketchy street activity. Phone in your pocket, nothing valuable on show.
Baños Jordan · Los Ángeles 70B, Las Conchas
An older, basic mixed bathhouse with a pool, a sauna and a TV room, and a crowd sometimes described as hetero-flexible. It's the least polished place on this list. Confirm hours before making the trip.

Safety
Health
Mexico's public CAPASITS clinics offer free HIV testing, PrEP and PEP. If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: go to a CAPASITS clinic or a hospital emergency room and say "PEP". The local organization CHECCOS works on HIV prevention and can point you to current testing options, and Unión Diversa de Jalisco is the main LGBTQ+ rights group.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best gay sauna in Guadalajara?
It depends what you want. Riilax (Venustiano Carranza 313, Centro) is the biggest and busiest, with the largest jacuzzi in the city and huge steam rooms, open daily from noon or 11 a.m. Polari (Gral. Pedro Rioseco 9, by Nueve Esquinas) is the stylish newcomer: two floors, steam, a pool, cabins and themed nights. Renacer Day Spa (Amado Nervo 106) is the afternoon choice, with a rooftop pool and outdoor jacuzzi. All three are openly gay.
How much does a gay sauna cost in Guadalajara?
Roughly MXN 200–400 (about US$11–22) at the gay saunas. Renacer charges MXN 250 with locker, MXN 200 on Mondays and for 18–23-year-olds with ID, and runs a two-for-one on Wednesdays. Riilax is around MXN 280 and Polari around MXN 400. La Estación, a cruise club rather than a sauna, costs about MXN 70 for eight hours. Traditional steam baths are cheaper still. Bring cash in small notes, since card acceptance varies.
Are Guadalajara's traditional steam baths (baños) gay?
No, not officially. Places like Baños Guadalajara on Federalismo, Baños San Martín on Cabañas and Baños Jordan are traditional mixed bathhouses used by straight regulars, working men and retirees, and gay guides list them for the discreet cruising that happens there. Treat them like a Turkish hamam: keep your towel on, follow the regulars' lead, never assume, and keep everything out of sight of anyone who isn't clearly interested. If you want no ambiguity, go to Riilax, Polari or Renacer.
What is La Estación in Guadalajara?
La Estación (Av. Enrique Díaz de León Nte 20, on the edge of Colonia Americana) is listed among the saunas but is really a men's cruise club: lockers, dark rooms, porn areas and glory holes in a yellow building with a discreet entrance and a lot of stairs. It's cheap, about MXN 70 for eight hours. Its hours change often, but lately it runs non-stop from Friday afternoon through Sunday night and from about 4 p.m. on weekdays; check its Facebook page before going midweek.
Is it safe to visit gay saunas in Guadalajara?
Yes, with ordinary city precautions. Same-sex marriage is legal across Mexico and Guadalajara scores 82/100 on the GayOut index. Use the lockers, leave your passport and spare cash at the hotel, and take an Uber or DiDi door to door, because several saunas are in parts of Centro that empty out at night. For free HIV testing, PrEP and PEP, Mexico's public CAPASITS clinics and the local organization CHECCOS can help; PEP must start within 72 hours.
