Strolling along the banks of the Spree is truly lovely. The monument is nice, but it doesn't necessarily enhance the experience and certainly isn't one of the must-see highlights.
… a unique memorial 🏳️🌈 … the rainbow-colored sculpture symbolizes that life is not just black and white, but colorful and diverse … every color has its own validity and its own beauty. A memorial to love … and a monument to pioneers of the gay rights movement and sexology. Centrally located in Berlin on the Magnus Hirschfeld Embankment, near the former Institute for Sexology. The physician Magnus Hirschfeld—a contemporary and colleague of Sigmund Freud—is considered the founder of modern sexology. Unfortunately, the Nazis destroyed his unique and extensive collection of sexological works.
A beautiful place, and one that also connects me to LGBTQ* history! It's especially lovely here in the summer and often quite peaceful. A walk here couldn't be more meaningful.
Like a flower, it blooms in wind and cold, telling everyone about the beauty of life in freedom.
A beautiful walk by the river with an art installation and a German/English informational plaque about 3 different German LGBTQ activists, including Magnus Hirschfeld. The Ufer/riverside path is also named for Magnus Hirschfeld.
