O tym miejscu Kleine Schanze

Kleine Schanze is a landscaped public park on the old city fortifications just west of the Bundesplatz and Federal Palace, a few minutes from Bern's main station. By day it is an ordinary green space with views toward the Alps on clear days. After dark it has long been known as Bern's main outdoor gay cruising area, picking up once the daytime crowds thin out. It is informal and unofficial. Be discreet, leave other park users alone, and keep valuables to a minimum. Switzerland is one of Europe's safer countries for LGBTQ+ people, but the usual night-time common sense applies. Public sex can still draw a fine if police are called.

We had a snack on the terrace at the top of the park. Swiss prices: €23 for two beers and a soft drink. The only downside was that they didn't provide ice in a glass—typical Swiss fare. The park is beautiful and located near Bern's old town.

★☆☆☆☆

I normally don't leave bad reviews because I know how much they can affect a business (you can check my profile for reference). On top of that, I am not a fussy customer. I had always heard wonderful things about Switzerland—their precision, attention to detail, and safety. If you are a tourist, I’d suggest paying by card (always check the amount first) or making sure you get the right change in cash. The issue with the bill: My bill was 26 CHF. I paid 27 CHF (one 20 CHF note, a 5 CHF coin, and a 2 CHF coin). Since I wasn't confident with the local currency (in my country, 5 is a banknote, which caused my confusion), I explicitly asked the waiter to double-check the amount. He replied, "That's correct," and gave no change. I didn't complain on the spot because I didn't want to ruin the mood for the guests I was with by having to translate and explain the whole situation. I usually believe mistakes are made in good faith, but in this case, I had specifically asked the waiter to check because of my uncertainty. Service issues: Language barrier: One of my guests didn't speak German or English, but spoke another official Swiss language. When he asked me to get the toilet code, the waitress told me, "He didn't speak German to me." This left me confused, as I was speaking English and simply asking for the toilet code. I get that we can't expect everyone to speak all official languages, but a bit of common sense goes a long way. Wi-Fi response: When we asked for the Wi-Fi password, the waitress claimed, "In Switzerland, we don't do that, no Wi-Fi." However, I could actually see their Wi-Fi network available on my phone—it just required a password. A simple "sorry, we don't give the password to customers" would have been much better than making up a fake rule about the whole country. Basic amenities: No napkins were provided with our orders (which included milk drinks), leaving one of my guests unsure how to clean his mouth. Having traveled to the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania, Greece, Japan, Vietnam, and Australia, I have always received napkins, even for just drinks without even asking. Maybe I was just unlucky with this place, but overall it left me with the impression of not being tourist-friendly at all. I wish your experience in Bern will be better than mine :)
