I travel constantly for work, and it’s rare — truly rare — for a hotel to stop me in my tracks. But from the very moment I stepped through the doors of The Gotham Hotel Newcastle, Dan delivered a welcome so warm, so genuine, and so effortlessly polished that it completely redefined what I expect from a hotel experience. Dan didn’t just greet us — he set the tone for the entire stay. His energy was infectious, his professionalism flawless, and his attention to detail nothing short of remarkable. It felt like he had personally decided that our stay would be exceptional, and he made sure of it at every turn. People talk about “first impressions” — well, Dan doesn’t just make a first impression, he makes a lasting one. This was my first stay at The Gotham, and because of Dan, it will now be my go‑to hotel whenever I’m in Newcastle. As someone who spends a huge amount of time on the road, finding a place that feels this welcoming is priceless. Dan is the kind of team member who elevates an entire hotel — the kind of person who turns a good stay into a memorable one. If you’re considering The Gotham Hotel, book it. And if you’re lucky enough to be greeted by Dan, prepare for a level of service that genuinely stands out in the world of frequent travel.

Incredible service and high quality room, enjoyed It ! They provide private parking services which cost you 50£ a night .

I was served by Max, Fern and James today, all three gave exceptional customer service. I sat on my own, waiting for my friends and all three made sure to check on me as they walked past. I was unsure what I wanted to drink tonight and Max gave me a great recommendation! I'll definitely be returning and recommending to my friends and family 🥰

Me and my partner stayed for his birthday , very short notice I mentioned this and they still went out of their way and made an effort with birthday decor . Service and staff were absolutely amazing , most friendliest people ! Two members of staff who stood out the most were George and Callum . Room was so aesthetically pleasing and perfectly clean ! 100% will be staying again.

Outstanding hotel. Staff are amazing couldn't do enough for me. Room was a higher standard than I expected. The decor and the use of the old fixtures and fittings from the previous use of the building was a brilliant touch. Would definitely stay at this hotel again. And to be honest. Im really fussy !!!!

Newcastle's Gotham Hotel has a truly unique atmosphere 🖤 Elegant, dark, and incredibly distinctive, with refined interiors, soft lighting, and details reminiscent of a boutique hotel with contemporary Gothic charm. I loved the atmosphere: sophisticated yet welcoming, perfect for a special evening in Newcastle. The room was beautiful, impeccably clean, and the staff were incredibly friendly, with special thanks to Ella, who was truly helpful and professional. The location is also excellent for exploring the city center and the Quayside on foot. The Fire Bar is also beautiful, perfect for ending the evening in a relaxed, yet very stylish atmosphere. One of those rare times when it's honestly hard to find anything negative to report ✨

I booked the hotel for an overnight stay for our 32nd Anniversary for a mid week dinner bed and Breakdast stay over on the 20th-21st May 2026. As soon as you go through the revolving doors of the hotel it transports you to another time and place and knowing what it used to be as a teenager to the hotel is has become now its mesmerising. The whole experience of seeing all the old fire hoses being used in various features (including gifting leather/hose products) to the fireman’s pole centre place in the reception area and the facade of the old fire tower outside. We decided to visit the Fire Bar for cocktails before dinner last night,my husband had a cocktail called New Friends which had a lovely touch added to it where you receive a post card from the person that had the drink before you, to you writing a postcard for the next new friend to receive it after you, my cocktail wasn’t actually on the list but I asked the mixologist if he was able to make a Tiffany Martini And he certainly delivered as it was amazing (photo of cocktails attached) 2 cocktails later 😃 Our dinner reservation was in The Siren which had a gorgeous ambience about it, the restaurant team were so lovely and very knowledgeable about the food as they all get to try everything on the menu so they can give an honest suggestion/view of the food when asked My husband had steak and I went for lamb, we looked at the dessert menu and were giggling with the staff about the Marmite Cheesecake (Not a fan of Marmite,don’t knock until you’ve tried it ) I don’t like marmite like your supposed to have it but it is another level with the creaminess of the cheesecake 😃 The bedrooms are something else very luxurious in their design and comfort factor and the lovely added touches of the shortbread on your beside to go with your coffee or tea when your bed is turned down for the evening as well as the little added joke/poem was a lovely touch. Breakfast this morning was amazing before we checked out at 11am,we wanted to leave the bags to do a bit of mooching in the Newly renovated Grainger Market so the reception staff kept our bags for us to pick later on our return We will definitely be returning soon for another night or two in this amazing hotel 😃

The hotel itself is gorgeous, we booked one of the packages for our wedding anniversary and had a suite which was so wonderful. The concierge and greeting by George was lovely and we felt really welcomed. Unfortunately there seems to be a communication issue within the hotel that left a bit of a bad taste. As part of our package we had welcome drinks, dinner and breakfast. We went to the fire bar for our drinks but weren’t really sure what we were entitled to. We were told it was table service so we sat for 10 minutes before someone came over, we informed them we had drinks included and gave our room number and he said he’d be back in a moment. Another waiter appeared a few minutes later and we asked again what was included and he replied “we will make you whatever you want” so we ordered two cocktails. By the time they came we only had around 10 minutes until our dinner reservations (that we made at check in) so had to rush them a little. When we had finished the waiter said bye smiled and we left. Awkwardly at the entrance to the restaurant we realised we had been chased down by the same waiter and a card machine complaining we hadn’t paid - when we explained he asked us for vouchers which we weren’t given and then he said he would go and check. We were confused as we had given our room number to the first waiter. It was embarrassing. Then we turned to the waiting restaurant waiter and told him we had a reservation he replied “nope I don’t have any reservations” so that hadn’t seemingly made its way to the restaurant- luckily it was fairly empty. We again asked about the package and he replied “I think you get an allowance I’m not sure” we would be happy to pay the difference for any extras - it was just frustrating to not have clear communication on what we had actually paid for. The food was nice. We were awoken fairly early by people talking in the courtyard under our room but this wasn’t the end of the world. We went for breakfast and were not greeted by anyone so stood for five minutes before someone appeared and went to get the waiter to seat us. The reception team were great and helpful on check out but overall it doesn’t seem that any of the separate parts are talking to each other.

FIRE bar really needs to decide what type of venue it is, table service or service at the bar. Unfortunately because of this, the service is very mixed and frustrating, making you feel very unwelcome. We came on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy inside. We were told we could sit anywhere, and as it was table service only they would come to take out order. 10 minutes later, despite staff having been to every table around us, they hadn't come to our table. I tried to get someone's attention as they were walking round, but they either didn't see me (so weren't actually paying attention) or I was just ignored. When it's table service it isn't the customers responsibility to chase staff to place an order. Whilst we were deciding whether to leave, two people walked in and over to the bar and were served straight away... So it wasn't only table service?! Unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened to us, and it is unlikely we will be returning, which is a shame as it really has potential.

This hotel is absolutely faultless, it's beautiful, the staff at every turn are friendly and professional. I felt very welcome and enjoyed my brief stay so much, it was too short I wanted to stay longer. I had a delicious avocado caprese for breakfast, it tasted absolutely devine. Everything was perfect, a very special place to stay!
