The honest summary: Perth has two gay venues that matter, both in Northbridge: The Court, a big pub that is the everyday centre of the scene, and Connections, a late club that has been open since 1975. Add a quiet LGBTQIA+ gin bar, Frisk, and Fremantle's Flaming Galah, and that's the list. Most of them are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
Legal in one line: Sex between men has been legal in Western Australia since 1990 and same-sex marriage across Australia since 2017. The drinking age is 18 and venues check photo ID.
The Court
The Court is at 50 Beaufort Street, on the corner of James Street, and has been home to Perth's LGBTQ+ crowd since the early 1990s. Behind the heritage pub front there are several bars, a big courtyard beer garden and a dance floor, so it works for an after-work beer and for a late Saturday. Drag is the core of the programme: Drag Factory and a drag brunch are regular fixtures, and there is bingo and karaoke. Much of PrideFEST happens here, including a ticketed street party on parade night.
Australian Venue Co bought the pub in September 2023 and said it would stay an LGBTQ+ venue, and it has. Its website lists Wednesday noon to midnight, Thursday noon to 22:00, Friday noon to 02:00 and Saturday 15:00 to 02:00, closed Sunday to Tuesday. The crowd is mixed: gay men, lesbians, trans people and their friends. Google reviewers rate it 4.3 from more than 2,000 reviews.
Connections Nightclub
Connections at 81 James Street, known as Connies, opened in 1975 and is Australia's longest-running gay nightclub. It celebrated 50 years with a weekend party in December 2025, it is on the City of Perth heritage register, and Tim Brown has owned it since 1991. It is a club, not a bar: a dance floor, DJs and drag shows, and the alt-queer party Cherry Bomb is one of its regular nights.
It opens Wednesday to Saturday from 20:00, until about 03:00 midweek and 05:00 on Friday and Saturday, and it doesn't fill up until after midnight. Its own website was offline when we checked, so use the Facebook page for line-ups. Google reviews are mixed (3.6 from about 400).

Frisk Small Bar
Frisk (103 Francis Street) is a small gin bar on the edge of Northbridge, open since 2010, with more than 180 gins, snacks and board games. Visit Perth describes it as proudly LGBTQIA+. It is the place for a quiet drink or a date before The Court, open Thursday to Sunday.
The Flaming Galah, Fremantle
The Flaming Galah (19B Essex Street) opened in November 2022 as Fremantle's first queer bar, and it is still the only one. It's a small, camp room with drag, karaoke, bingo and themed nights and a mostly local crowd, open Wednesday to Sunday. Fremantle is about 30 minutes from Perth station by train.
Parties and nights elsewhere
A lot of Perth's queer nightlife happens away from the two big venues. Bears Perth hold Den Nights at Loton Park in East Perth on the second Saturday and fourth Friday of the month. Drag bingo nights run in pubs across the suburbs, from Subiaco to Fremantle. Sapphic Disco has run at The Rechabite in Northbridge. Dates move around, so check event listings for the week you are in town. Perth Steam Works, the city's gay sauna, also runs party nights.
Closed or changed
- The ParQ Bar (East Victoria Park) opened in January 2023 and closed about ten weeks later.
- Honey Lounge (Leederville) lasted from March to November 2012.
- sKandalous closed after about five months and reopened as a mixed venue.
- Feathers on Roe Street and the Red Lion belong to Perth's gay history, not its present.
- Mainstream Northbridge bars and clubs such as Geisha, Hula Bula, The Vault and Ezra Pound sometimes appear on gay-bar lists. We found no evidence that any of them is an LGBTQ+ venue.
- Wednesday to Saturday is when things happen. Saturday at The Court, then Connections after midnight, is the classic Perth night.
- The Court, Connections, Frisk and the sauna are all within about ten minutes' walk of each other and of Perth station.
- In November, PrideFEST adds parties almost every weekend. The Pride Parade is on Saturday 28 November 2026.
