In Monterey, hotels/motels are generally situated as follows. Seaside/Marina/Monterey Airport: Hotels in this area are generally the worst places to stay. Car and plane noise is heavy, walkability is poor, and maintenance and cleanliness is, frankly, abhorrent. This area is also out of walking distance from the majority of attractions that vacationers come here for. Munras Avenue: Unless staying at a boutique, high end hotel in Carmel or near Cannery Row, Munras Avenue is the place to stay. Prices are only slightly higher than those in the airport area, but in return you get much higher quality accommodations. The motels along this road maintain an admirable standard of service, maintenance, and care. Rooms are clean and updated. Downtown Monterey is only a five minute walk away. Del Monte shopping center is right across the street, along with a very pleasant, short walking trail. Traffic is lighter. Occupancy is lower and visitors are more mature, resulting in more privacy and better sleep. Pelican Inn is one of the better locations on Munras and follows a similar vein as the other stops along this road. It features nice wood window blinds, vinyl floors, updated bathroom, new faucet, great television, comfortable bed and pillows, spotless paint, in-ceiling lighting, and is very well cleaned throughout. Customer service is also excellent. Although very no frills - no premium channels, no coffee maker and a small, older dresser - the things that they do are done well. It is the perfect place to stay for a few nights in Monterey when not interested in shelling out hundreds of dollars per night for a luxury hotel.

Clean room, good bathroom, comfortable bed and friendly staff. Good for a couple on the weekend.

Horrible experience, never got my deposit back even though I left a clean room. Stayed for 1 night, never again will I stay here.

I had visited back in January 2024 and had a fine time. However, recently in the last month they continue to try to use my credit card for their Netflix account subscription. This is wildly inappropriate and I hope it will stop immediately.

only good thing about this place is the location, staff is rude as all hell and they don't tell you about there "100$ hold fee" until you arrive at the hotel, staff is incompetent and loud as hell, could hear the cleaning lady on her phone yelling the whole time while cleaning the room next to ours, flat out rude, hope they get new management soon because this place used to be the spot back in the 2000s.

Stay away. This owner had the audacity to kick me and my wife out of our room because of a medical emergency. The ambulance and the fire truck show up and as soon as my wife was cleared by medical staff he bangs on our door and demanded we leave the property. This could’ve happened to anyone, medical emergencies are unpredictable especially if you have kids. He didn’t give us our deposit. He is very unprofessional and as soon we walked in to check in he pushed his political views onto us by down talking the state government and praising Trump.

Nice & calm Lady at the Office, we came at 9PM just walk in in a vacation trip, Room is basic but okay and good claned. very okay for the price.

Location: Central location to Monterey, Carmel, and everything in between. Parking: limited on premises. Price: decent for what you’re getting Ambience: Place gets easily noisy. You can hear everything from other rooms and from the outside. (If you’re a light sleeper, don’t stay here.) Cleanliness: 4/10, floors were dusty due to construction gear/equipment nearby; furniture + bedframe upgrades are needed.

Despite some of the negative reviews I saw, I had a great experience here. The rooms were very clean and it’s an excellent choice if you’re looking for a solid place to stay for a good price. I’d definitely recommend it for the value.

The costumer service at the front desk has a very rude man who was pretty degrading to me like I was literally lectured on rules for their hotel in front of other guests for them to embarrass me. The man at the front was really sexiest until my boyfriend intervened and he was only kind to him so I can tell what kind of service I wouldn’t get which was respect. The room and amenities were okay I liked the microwave, the quiet area, and mini fridge just wish the staff were kinder but definitely look next door to them the Monterey surf Inn downtown has great staff and larger rooms so I recommend that if your booking a room for a wedding or event. Never got my deposit back and I was just scared of the owner to ask because he was unbelievable rude. Don’t recommend this hotel to anyone they are disrespectful to tourists and I was really disappointed in that since it was my 1st time going to that city. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a hotel! Such a nightmare please take my advice and go for something better!

Upon arriving during the evening, the man at the front desk was very rude. He was very combative and confrontational throughout the entire encounter. He spoke to us, especially me, as if we lacked the intelligence to understand what he was saying even when asking questions for clarification. It was not until my boyfriend began speaking to him that he was able to give the necessary information for us to simply get up to our room. The room itself was not bad, the location of the hotel was nice, and the woman at the front desk the next morning was very polite and helpful as well. However, the disrespect and lack of human decency by the man the previous night made it hard to feel both safe and comfortable.

If you like to take a bath don’t come here they restricted bathtubs to showers, if you want a hot cup of coffee don’t come here they have no coffee maker and if you want heat or AC forget it the knobs are removed from the fan unit!!
