The honest summary: Raleigh has two dedicated gay bars, Legends and Flex, both in the Warehouse District on the west side of downtown, plus the LGBTQ-owned Libations 317 a short walk away. The scene lost Ruby Deluxe, the Night Rider and the Wicked Witch in 2025, so lists that name six or seven gay bars are out of date.

Legends Nightclub

Legends has been Raleigh's main gay club since 1991. In October 2026 it moved from 330 W Hargett St to 316 W Cabarrus St, reopening with a grand-opening weekend on 23–25 October. The new building is about 10,000 sq ft, with a dance floor, drag and shows, a game room and a large patio. Google lists Friday and Saturday from 9pm to 2:30am. Check its socials for other nights.

Flex

Flex (615 W Hargett St) is a basement bar that calls itself a "neighborhood gay/straight/whatever bar and club". Its calendar has karaoke on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, drag on Thursdays, go-go dancers on Fridays and a Sunday tea dance. There's also a monthly bear party and a fetish night with the Red Lions Leather Club. A small leather shop trades inside. Flex is closed on Mondays.

Libations 317

Libations 317 (317 W Morgan St, Suite 117) is an LGBTQ-owned bar with an Asian kitchen. Locals call it mostly a gay bar, especially on Sundays, and it hosts a monthly drag brunch. Hours are early: Wednesday to Saturday from 4pm to 9:30 or 10pm, and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.

Gay-friendly and uncertain

Stella's on West (911 N West St, Glenwood South) is a small retro dive, not a gay bar, but reviewers say part of the Night Rider and Wicked Witch crowd moved there. 440 Nightclub (2526 Hillsborough St) is a Latin dance club that has run Latino LGBTQ+ nights. Some directories list it as closed since late 2025, so check its Facebook first.

Closed or moved

    • Legends' old home at 330 W Hargett St, and View Bar & Gameroom, which was its game room (October 2026).
    • Ruby Deluxe, 415 S Salisbury St (closed 3 May 2025).
    • The Night Rider and The Wicked Witch, 416 W South St (closed 2 November 2025).

Good to know

All bars are 21+ and ID is checked. Legends and Flex are about five minutes' walk apart, and Libations 317 is about ten minutes from either. For a lesbian bar, go to Arcana in Durham, about 25 miles away. See our Raleigh city guide for Pride, community groups and hotels.
